Re: walking
I wonder just how smart your Boss really is ?
These M/C's DO BREAK we all know that .
Walking above & behind the Pinsetters is a Pro-Active way of seeing & fixing issues B4 they become MAJOR BREAKDOWNS
I'll walk the back-ends whenever nothing urgent is happening , My Night Shift Pinchaser does the same .
Head Mech does a Morning M/C walk & between all of us we pick up on issues that are happening .
Some times I think that this Job would be so much better if Managers / Owners knew what the heck the machines get up to when they are not being watched , You know all 28 lanes get together & plot a MAJOR breakdown IF you are not keeping a close eye on them

Re: walking
I don't require pinnies to 'walk down' the machines, but it's mainly because my tool room and desk area is about 4 feet higher than the machine area floor, and has an open front on it. I have a workbench at the front of it, and the pinnies sit on a bar stool at it... they can see all 16 machine tops from that seat. The other 14 machines either get a separate pinnie (who also has a raised area to sit at), or if only 1 is on, some 'walkdown' is necessary.
We also have a PM/Work schedule of things to do while pinchasing (dust tops & backs of machines, wipe off the wheels, etc...) that keeps whoever is on moving around a bit.
That and my policy of raising colossal hell if a jam/problem gets missed long enough to cause excess wait time for the bowlers, or any damage to a machine keeps things running fairly smoothly, and helps ensure that problems are caught quickly and fixed promptly. Re: walking
I only have one pinchaser once a week. Any other times either I'm down back or there is no one down there. I do extensive PM in the mornings and afternoons so I have no need to have someone walking back and forth all night. With 18 lanes if there is nobody down back, I can get to a problem and have it fixed quicker than some pinchasers I have seen.Give me a hammer and some duct tape and I can fix it!

I've got a "Chaser" 5 Nights a week , we need him as our house is a 2 side 28 lane centre !
My Pinnie is THE ABSOLUTE BEST BAR NONE !
This young guy is a real asset to our split lane centre , Honestly , I reckon he know's more than I do , I'd be "STUFFED" without his help !

Re: walking
There is only one way to get respect...you have to earn it.
And of course, that doesn't always work either!!
