• Glass Relay's

Why do I have 2 different relays?(070-005-515MP Chassis & 057-001-229Sur Pik) The 515 relay works in both; MP & SPik. The 229 relay seems to work in the spot relay & sweep reverse relay...but doesn't work in the master on-off relay. I have noticed that most manufacturers charge different prices for each. JCP confirmed by phone today part #070-005-515 is selling for $9.36...

Is one of them a 24v relay and the other one a 12v relay?

Setting poolside right now with all the trimmings, will check'em out tommorrow night. I'm pretty sure they are both 24vac&10amp.

Check'ed the relays today; both are 24 vac, the 515 relay reads 10amp but can't confirm that with the 229 relay. Also, the 229 relay is like a quarter inch shorter.

5515 is the M & M2 relay in a SS chassis
1229 is a ball return ( up front)relay
I never had a "10" ;..but ,one night after closing,..I did five " 2's" !

Re: Glass Relay's

Pindecked; What I'm getting at is the 515 relay works in the place of the 229 relay & it's cheaper. Also would eliminate one less relay. In the meantime, I found out that 229 relay seems to work in an MP Chassis,(spot relay & sweep reverse relay) but not in the master on-off circuit.

Re: Glass Relay's

The 1229 relay was designed shorter to accommodate the wire hold down in the sure pik control box. It is 24 volt and will work wherever a 5515 relay will, even MP. Your problem is that different sets of contacts (circuits) within the relay are used for MP and Ball Return, and the relay you're trying might have one burnt set of contacts.
The 5883 spotting relay for Elco and C23 chassis' is 10v DC.

Re: Glass Relay's

I think part of the difference is the coil. The impedance(resistence) has to be less in the 1229 because the circuit strethes 75 feet back to the chassis. If you have a digital meter maybe you can check it out.

Asside from that, maybe it has something to do with the contact ratings. The 1229 has to deal with the inrush current from the motor.

Keep us posted Felix.

BowlEquip was right! Tried a different 229 relay in the Master on-off circuit in the MP and it worked! Kind of a good thing to know. Yet...515 is still cheaper. :p (will stick a ty wrap around 515 in SurPik)

Jimmy Jam has it. The impedance is different between the two relays.
