I believe this is an energy saving device that will shut down the BE motor if no one is bowling. However it causes more burnt BE motor switches due to the fact they are not designed to be turned on and off like combo motors.

The difference is only one contact on the BE motor switch as opposed to 2 on the combos.
I dont allow counter people to let machines idle anyway. They get tired of being screamed at.

Fella at a Jetback house had a similar setup - it would turn on the pinsetter motor when the cushion (or whatever Brunswick calls it) was hit and turn off the motor after a minute of inactivity.
Really quieted down those old washing machines.
