sweep & table contactors
I have repaired worn out A.B. upper contact points with silver solder, both upper & lower (start contacts). I use a pencil torch & after fileing & cleaning old surface, quickly heat and apply silver solder & spray with water as not to burn up the plastic. Then I file to about.100ths. I've some in the chassis for over a year and no problems at all. This is a 12 lane high lineage house too. Has anyone else done this? BTW, we use Omega Tech boards.Yeah but, We've always done it that way.Tags: None

Re: sweep & table contactors
Brunsamf, very interesting. We never tried doing that. We've just been installing the Siemens ones with the push-buttons to replace the old allen bradleys. Neat idea to try tho, I think I may give it a shot

Re: sweep & table contactors
Just put in the Bowltronics units.
The problem is the new contacts fly apart which inturn blows the capacitors.
They always fly apart during Saturday night when I do not want to come and repair something.

Re: sweep & table contactors
I've been touching up contacts and National motor start switches like that for a while... they work as good as new. The only thing I had to do was find a high-silver content solder... the "silver-bearing" tin solder tends to melt if the contacts arc a bit, and they stick together. I found that high-silver content jewelry solder works good. On the old AB's, doing this can save a bunch of money.
The only thing I do differently is that I remove the contact pads from the bakelite carriers so I don't damage them with the heat.Educatio est omnium efficacissima forma rebellionis
