• Melted Kicker???

Hey guys tonight on lanes 3&4 we had a pin get in the lift on 4 and a gal bowled on 3, no problem right? Wrong for some reason the kicker on 3 bonded itself to a hammer 4D ball. This is a headman or headway kicker, I'm not sure of the name cause most of it melted away!!!

The strange thing is we noticed absolutely no problems with the kicker all night. During a weekly inspection I noticed it looked a little oily but nothing exciting.

I pulled the assy out and bearings were not hot or stuck or binding to cause heat. I can't believe that kicker rubbed that ball for just a short time (maybe 15 seconds at most) and then melted. Could the rubber of the kicker have reacted with whatever that oil was and just disinegrate like that? there were no marks on any of the other balls even indicating a problem.

If anyone can post a picture for me I can email it to you to show everyone.

    Any ideas on this???

      Re: Melted Kicker???

Funny you should talk about a melted kicker. I just changed one Monday night. Odd thing was when I got the ball call for it the ball wasn't even on it. Almost like a ball stalled, melted it sent it back then the next one got stuck. Weird stuff for sure, if I can find the remnants of the kicker I'll take a pic and post it as well

Better the kicker melts rather then the ball.

Yeesh, looks worse than mine did. Mine looked chewed up badly with like a big ball of the remnants of the kicker on the side of it. Still need to snag a pic of it if it's still lurking around. Oddly enough I think it was the same kind of kicker wheel too. It was an old black one from Headway.

Wow. How did that work at all. But, I've seen kickers on the shelf COMPLETELY melt into a flat puddle of slime. Still can't figure what causes this melting though??

Well on the ball that mess was in about a 6 inch diameter. Plus a few smears here and there. It took about an hour to clean that sticky, gooey, nasty chit off. Amazingly enough the gal that the ball belonged to was happy as heck since her ball hadnt looked that good in 6 months!!!

As for me I felt like one of those cheap quarter toys that look like a hand that are all sticky. That chit transferred everywhere onto anything I touched. It was worse than wet silicone or caulk. It is still sticky today. Maybe I should use it to stick posters and crap to the wall?

I hope this never happens again!!!!

                  thanks guys
