• Ball return not returning balls??

Hi guys I got 82-70 machines and useing the kicker ball return system. On one of our lanes the balls are going in the ball hole and go up about 1 in. and get stuck right on the starter pad. I have replaced the starter bad tried adjusting the starter pad, but still continues to get stuck about 1 in going up.. I have also adjusted the shock the makes the ball lift go up and down that does not make no differnce at all either. I have also just replaced the lift belt and that did not help either. Think I should just say screw it and put in a humpback system instead?? lol we have one still in the box but debating to put it in.. any suggestions would help! Thanks

Sounds like it could be shot covers on the bottom of the rails. Check them out, also it could be the ball lift height, might need adj. Check that and if need be adj it with the bumper on the side. That's all I can think of for now.

Yep. If it's getting all the way in the door and starting to go up, then Rep is correct. It's either split rail covers or your lift height needs to be adjusted. Good luck!

Jerry, do the humpies beat the heck out of the clutches? Do you have alot of clutches fail from the constant impact?

I heard or did see somewhere on Bowltech someting about a Humpie lookalike from amf.
Does any of you have experience or more news about them?

I have not seen any extra clutch failure due to humpback.....I have had them across the entire house for some time now....I do rebuild my ball lifts every other year.

The AMF mod is for a PBL.....it helps with spinning balls and such.

Not to knock the efforts of AMF but we pretty much have solved the yo-yo problem. All you need is the (Jerry is going to hate this :p ) BRUNSWICK style lift rod cover on the upsweep and even those iron like orange belts get the ball up the lift. The problem is getting the ball under the lift.

I can't get more than 2 years out of the B-gummed rubber. The first foot or so should be the large rubber from Stahl's.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Felix....the trick to keep the rubber from going bad is to use a 3 or 4 inch peice of the original AMF cover at the bottom. That is were the high wear area is and where it splits first. The lift rod cover is a little thicker then the OEM AMF stuff so you also need to taper the lift rod cover down a hair to sit flush where they meet. I have and I know of many others that have been using the B cover for over 10 years and there still running this way. I hope this helps you out.

Some of the best lift rod covers I've used so far are from JCP. They wear like iron, and have a bit of texture to them that seems to help with spinners and yo-yos.

The only covers that have lasted longer and given me no trouble are the ones I made out of Kenworth red heater core hose a long time ago.

One piece of info, though... if you are gonna replace, buy 3 upper covers instead of 2 uppers and 2 lowers... Somehow, thier pricing is a bit strange... $20 each for the uppers, and $12 for the lowers... it's cheaper to buy a 3rd upper, and cut it into lowers.

Re: Ball return not returning balls??

Nanolas, sounds to me like your starter pad is sticking up too high, and maybe your rod covers are worn out like some others have mebtioned. Here at my center, we have 64 lanes of kickers. We run Rocket Rails lower rod covers with Bruns rubber on upper rod area. If like you said the balls are spinning on starter pad, try gluing a piece or 2 of old carpet between the starterpad assy spring arm that touches the even machine side lift rod. This will space starter pad away from the lift belt and provide a less amoubt of tension getting the ball started on its way up. Also, we use the sawblade style front filler strip from Zot. Its the best product I've seen made for kickers in the last 10 years. Humpbacks are nice, but kickers are still useable with the products now avalable. Also we run Red Lightning LH and RH KR's. Hope this helps you out, AmfPro

I have installed both Humpbacks and The new Gripper. There is no comparison. The Gripper is a far supperior product. Once it is installed you can forget about all the oil issues. The ball comes back every time. The Gripper is the only way to go.
