dane300: don't mind CUJO; his bark is much worse, well you know the rest.

Checked your profile and I'm guessing that you have Westinghouse BE motors.

You were somewhat vague to the point that I'm not sure if your sure that you need to change the cent mech.

Pull off the springs carefully or they'll fly across the room. remove collar and legs. mark where the old base is seated and remove it using two standard screwdrivers to gently pry outward. A squirt of lubricant would be nice.

Install: I have a couple different sizes or conduit that I've cut and capped for tapping bearings and cent mech bases onto shafts. Make sure you get the smallest size possible and try not to scratch the rotor shaft. put all the parts back together.

Make sure your terminal board contacts are clean and not arced over. You can file them with a small contact file or burnishing tool. The terminal board is adjustable, if your cent mech does not close your switch, then you can open it a little. Make sure you open both sides and that a gap is the same distance before you opened it.
You just want to bring it closer to the cent mech.

Hope this will get you started

Most of the times the base is still ok, just renew the other parts (legs, springs and collar)!

                      dane 300,

when I was first learning the machines many moons ago I was told to learn all the parts names and electrical functions such as ta1-ta2-sa and so on and what they do so if I ever had a problem and had to call somebody for help I might have a clue of what there telling me to check. you still never stated what brand of motors you have? did they come from mexico, china or save on! sorry I gave you a hard time! but I love it.
