    Re: motor trouble

By the way, some of the machines I'm working on now came from overseas. Half of the combo motors had Electric start relays in the wireways.

If this was the case then the centrifugal switch is bypassed. Should still run but the start winding will not shut off causing the motor to be loud and throw the thermal overload quickly.

    Ed hopes this helps.

Not sure what type of combos so I won't include ohm readings.
With motor unplugged the male plug should have the following.
X - nil - CT should all have continuity
    Y - Z should have continuity

Japan operates both 50Hz and 60 Hz depending on where you are at. Single phase anywhere from 100-200 volts.

In Japan the neutral wire of the secondary distribution system is grounded.

    motor trouble

I have a friend that purchased some used 70 combo motors…there in “like new” condition but he told me that the male plug on the head is different. He does not understand how to change the wiring to make them work on his 70’s. He had mentioned that he thought that these were Jap motors but I have personally seen them yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
