We have several lanes that seem to have many
5-7-10 left on them. We have AMF 82/70 machines. We have AMF HPL Pin Decks. The slippery type. The customers seemed to notice the increase of 5-7-10 after we changed from 30's to 70's about 3 years ago. We made sure the pins are on spot. They are left on the same lanes all the time. About 4 across the house. Need suggestions of what to look for!

Playbowl...I am not a bowling expert (understatement of the year ), so I can't help you much. But CLICK HERE for a similar thread that ran on here a month or 2 ago about 5-7 splits. It should give you some idea of what to look for.

Re: 5-7-10

You know we had this problem at our house. What has solved it in the end is we adjusted our pin deck tilt. We went to the max (OK close to it don't push ABC) and the prblem went away.

Good luck

Re: 5-7-10

Whenever I see a thread like this, everyone tries to tell the thread starter what to do without looking at the variables closely. I highly doubt that the bowler who left this wonderful split was a true bowler. It was probably some 140 who is there with his or her mate who has had a couple while throwing his/her 60 doller white dot. 5-7-10 is mostly caused by a major deflection of the ball. So if some "6 o'clocker" leaves a few sour apples, then to me its not worth the hastle of dealing with the ABC at certification time.

Check your ABC tape readings......

You should have 60 units or so in the 1st 20 feet and no more than 15-20 units at the end of the pattern (35-40ft).

So far no Help!
Lanes stipped with Sanction machine everyday at 5pm before night leagues.
Pin Decks are up in the back.
Pins are on spot.
Same bowlers, bowling on other lanes do not see
5-7-10 Unless they are on certain lanes.
Keep the ideas flowing!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I agree.

If the bowler ripped one off 2 board, didn't rollout, and was using some new nuclear powered reactive, and left a few, then I would be looking for the problem.

Anyway, they get bigger roars from the crowd here than 300's.

Agree , Once had a lane at Bowl-era , (28 lane house, two floors, 16 on top of 12 ) that was notorious for 5-7-10 's. Never cared why , Just loved seeing guys like Eugene leave them when they thought they blew the rack. p.s. I left a few of them there myself

Re: 5-7-10

The 5-7-10 can be caused by the bowling ball going airborne as it rolls off the lane onto the pindeck. Two things can cause this to happen - the pindeck is tilted down in back or the pindeck is slightly lower than the lane itself. Check either problem by placing a fluorescent lamp lengthwise from lane to pindeck and check the clearance under the bulb. Good Luck!

Re: 5-7-10

What I've saw of this problem has been light balls 6-9lbs. deflecting off the head pin, then off the 3 pin, then off the the 6 pin, then in front of the 10 pin leaving the5-7-10.

Simple, put the 30's back in.. I'm in love with 30's machines.. Might be a lot of moving parts and may be pretty complex but there's always something to fix or change and they are the most reliable.. Similarily, DOS hardly EVER crashed, Windows - well, need I say more.. Long live the 30's, love live DOS and long live JFK!

Hmmm,I dont think just because you installed 82/70's does'nt mean bowlers are going to start leaving 5 7 10's.Does this happen early or late into the league, maybe your getting alot of oil carry down,i'm a 200 avg bowler myself, and some times late in the league i get some wierd leaves.I dont care how good you are if your ball slides into the pocket as aposed to rolling you will leave a 5-7-10 eventually.Or then again maybe you need new kickbacks......just my thoughts
