• Distributor Probs 2!!

I have a problem with one of my dizzy's that when its goes from the 3 to the 2 pin it swings rather violently, i have checked the carriage tubes and rollers all are "A" ok and the clutch plates are good, the drive shaft isnt bent, and the housing is a new one ( i changed it to eliminate that possible cause), its giving me grief cuz when it moves to the 2 pin it swings so bad that the pins hesitate going over the trip forks and end up dropping short and then through the shuttle into the table.
I know you guys out there crap on my ability and therefore would probably be able to fix this in 2 seconds but ive tried most things that i can think of. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

1. New spring on the safety link and counterbalance.
2. Clutch tension excessive.
3. Slow down pinwheel to keep pins closer to pan on belt when dist is in extended position....weight of pin at end of the belt acts like putting weight on the end of a lever.....causing the swinging action.
4. Dist support not 90 degrees.
5. Wore dist. drive shaft housing.

King named a few good ones, I must add one of our more common problems tho. If it's an odd lane you may need to shorten the drive shaft, on odd lanes sometimes they bottom out causing the 3 - 2 swing as you describe. Or you could do the little cheat mentioned here that works well. Hook a belt tensioner spring to the lateral drive arm and put the other spring end on the pin of the orientor pan, if ya cant find the problem this little "mod" works wonders

Are you using a V****** cam ? I had that same problem at the house that I took over 6 months ago and it ended up being the after market cams that were installed. I've trashed all of the (brand x) cams and installed AMF's and it stopped all of the bouncing distributors. And NO, I don't work for AMF. Made that mistake twice I'm sorry to say.

Re: Distributor Probs 2!!

Wow.

Had the same problem on a BRAND NEW Via MC2. It was the odd lane, too, "oddly" enough. Lampie's solution worked. I'm watching it, though. Every sixth or seventh time, it "swings", and dumps the pin into that open space ahead of it, right to the table below.

Our chief fixed that by taking a short piece of Lexan ball return track, and bolting it to the right side of the bin pocket. No more pins falling on the table.

Any of you 82-70 guys have problems with the #10 pin not seating properly, when all the others are loaded without problem? How about the #9 pin dropping with its head below the switch? I thought maybe the pin guide (where the butt of the pin hits) could be adjusted, but found out it can't! It only happens on the odd machine, too. Please don't say it's the Via, because I've seen it happen on the 8270-C model as well. Love this thread. Solved a LOT of problems! Bless you, bless you!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">One thing to watch with this problem that I see from time to time is the 6 pin, sometimes this problem has nothing to do with the 9 itself, if the 6 hangs over the bin a bit and stays there the 9 will hit it and the head of the 9 will go down below the bin switch.

Lampie's Solution:

"BE motor mounting bracket weldment was slightly loose causing the BE motor tilting towards the distributor, this (means)there wasn't enough room for the drive shaft between the BE motor and the distributor at the #3 position. (exactly!) The distributor did reach the #3 but was under great PRESSURE at that point and made big speed when released (going to the #2 pocket).
This is one to remember..."

Damn right! I fnd more solutions here than ANYWHERE. I wish I had some good advice for you guys, just to return the favor

Stuck, no prob. Ive seen the cocked 6pin prob a few too many times not to mention it, kinda an odd one since the 9 is the problem, but the 6 tends to cause it. And fear not, I'll talk pinsetters 24/7 and always do
