  • 8290 8800 drive shaft problems

Hi Guys its my first time back on bowltech
    for a few years
i Have an interesting little problem with my 82 90's/ 88 00's the table and sweep drive shafts seem to relocate themselves at will. the bearing design has changed from the 70's.
Gone is the eccentric collar and all that is left is the two little grub screws these seem to work loose after only a few weeks. i have redrilled the collar to take a bigger socket head cap screw on a pair of lanes but the job is fairlly labour intensive as both sweep and table drive a'ss need to be removed
does anyone know an easier way.

If you can get it lined up well enough, take out the setscrews and make a punchmark in the shaft where the sets contact it. Drill into the shaft about 1/8" deep with a 1/4" bit. Reassemble it so the setscrews engage the holes you drilled in the shaft, and put blue (removable) loctite on the threads before you crank them in.

If you have enough clearance, you may also try getting setscrews long enough (or use grade 8 bolts) with a jam nut. Bottom out the bolt/setscrew with some loctite on the threads, and then crank the nut down against the collar to jam it tight.

Either way will usually keep a fastener from working loose.
