• Omega-Tek MK70 Diagrams / Flow Charts ??

Hi All ,

Has anyone by chance got a Full Circuit Diagram & / or trouble shooting Flow chart for the Omega-Tek MK70 PCB ?

Reason for the question is that we have MK70's dropping dead at a very high rate all over the house & have had to resort to running scrap 5 boards that are well beyond their use by date .

The centre bought the MK70's around 1990 when they HAD a Lifetime warranty ( Unlike the 5 year warranty that appears to be the case at present )

The original supplier seems to not be interested in repairing them , Maybe because they have opened a House up the road from us in the last few months ( Maybe the reason ? / Funny about that ! )

We will need to repair the MK70's in house ( read that as I'll have to repair them at home ), But it's very hard to "Reverse" engineer the design of the PCB to track back to the faulty component.

Thanks in Advance ,

Mark

Mark.....ship them back to the States with a check in the box for return shipping

Shelby, OH 44875

1st off when handling them - I was told to use some grounding wrist straps due to static electricity knocking out the 5 volt chips.

Hey Jerry ,

Thanks

We would prefer to fix them here if possible due to the Turn around time , BUT we may have to take up your idea if all else fails !

Grounding Wrist strap is a good idea , Mainly due to the CMOS LSI chips on the PCB , The 5 volt 7805 regulator is bullet proof , The CMOS chips just love static ( Similar to my liking of beer )

Keeping the Boards stored & shipped in an Anti Static bag is a good idea also .

Thanks Mate

Jerry ,
Can't complain about a 1 Day turn around !

Just the Shipping time to / from Aust is the issue , But It's looking like a pretty good option at present

Maybe I could get a plane ticket & hand deliver them & pick them up when repaired = 3 Days

Wonder if AMF will spot me the $ for the flight ( First Class of course ! )

MARK,
if you want to make a phone call you can try calling 419-756-9580 and ask for JIM HUDSON he is the owner of omega tek. he may send you the info you want or tell you what the problem could be.
note the area code might be different as I haven't called him for 7-8 years.

Dirt ,
Handy Info there , Thank-You

It would be nice to deal directly with the Manufacturer instead of "Aussie Agents"

I wish we had bought them from Murrey International , They are so much better to do business with
But 13 Yrs ago , I wasn't here !

I don't suppose anyone has an E-Mail Address for Omega-Tek ??

They don't appear to have a web site anywhere that is "Obvious" !

Hey Mark,

Give Mouser a call - he can fix them. If you don't have his number, Terry will have it.

I would also have to say contact Omega-Tek directly. I am running 40 of them with no problem and if you are having problems with constant malfunctions I am sure that Jim at Omega -Tek will want to know about it. Give him a call and I'm sure that he will try to help you.

Re: Omega-Tek MK70 Diagrams / Flow Charts ??

I find that the regulators (mostly the 5v one) die more often than anything else.

I drew my own circuit diagram. It's not complete (I add to it now and again when fixing a board). I can send it to ppl if they ask (if you think a semi-complete circuit diagram is useful). I wonder if that consitutes breach of copyright (not mine - the manufacturer's)? Probably (!!).
The other problem is that is written in two colours of texta, meaning it won't come out too good in B&W. See what I can do.

Andrew.
