• second ball nightmare

I have 82-70 machines with solid state chasis and omega-tech boards in the chasis when the machine cycles after the second ball is thrown it sets a new rack but stays on SECOND ball i have to change it from the pit control box back to first ball i changed out the chasis and it still does it.which one of the cam switches tells the machine to return to first ball or am i way off with this one? Re: second ball nightmare

TA-2 is the culprit here. To change ball lights, the SA (single outer sweep cam, I believe it's SA) and TA-2 are out together and when SA goes back in and closes the switch it changes the ball lights. Without any sweep problems the TA-2 has to be the culprit. Check gap first, if ok the switch is probably shot. Replace and watch it run as it should

same old thing to check is that the sweep must stop at 0 befor th table does, with a 5 board assy you wont get much of a prob as the sweep runs to 0 as the ta opens, but with the omega tec sweep run later.

          Wow,

          Good thread, guys!

I've wondered about a similar problem. You guys know about the 7-10 pick-off, and fast strike cycle...

What if the bowler rolls a gutter ball, machine goes into 2nd ball mode immediately (Sweep down, then up again), THEN the bowler picks off the 10 pin...sweep comes down, goes back up, leaving the nine pins, and switches back to first ball?

          Ever seen that?

          WTF?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That would also be caused by a TA/SA adjustment. The 7/10 short cycle is done by tricking the machine... If you ever noticed the sweep stop just short of zero, then 'hop', that's where the trick comes in... it bumps the cams enough to switch between cycles without running the full 360 of the shaft. If the switches or followers are too far out of adjustment, the machine will change cycles too early, and then the sweep's 'hop' will change it back again.

Rack is an automotive term. It comes from rack and pinion as in: "In my pinion, that rack is broke".

                  Re: second ball nightmare

I have seen this before with machines that kick over to second ball cycle. Check your switches for oil contamination. It normally only occurs on the sweep switches and can be a pain in the butt. It is real easy to see with a visual inspection. Also check the springs, if you have worn out springs on the micro's it can give you the same problem.

We had that problem twice, tho it wasn't only on a corner pickoff. It ran a sweep reverse cycle no matter what you left, 9/10 I'd say. Broken wire in the MK-70 board, all better now
