  • SOMETHING TO LOOK AT

In reading the various posts about the distributor swinging when going from the 3 to the 2 pin, it started me thinking this past summer. I have noticed that there are several people who put extra springs on the lateral arm to help stop this problem, which in a lot of cases it does. This past summer I had pulled the safety link off one of my distributors, for what reason I cann't remember, and found that the safety link rod was bent, so I replaced it. Just for S&G I decided to check all of them (32). Almost all of them were bent so I replaced them. Here's the kicker though, while working on one of them on the bench, I started to play around with the rod end that goes into the lateral arm, the one with the stud that goes to the left. The thing had a lot of slop in it, in and out and front to back. Naturally I replaced it. In checking the next 10 machines, 8 out of the 10 were very sloppy. Remember by adding all the extra springs we are pulling on the rod end to take up the slack in it and trying to make it run as though it was a tight one. I'd be very interested to hear from anyone in reguards to my findings and how it could relate to your swinging distributors. By the way AMF no longer has the rod end with the brass inserts. They only sell the self lubricating ones.
