HERE'S ONE FOR THE KING...
What purpose, if any, does the plastic collar on the distributor clutch plate serve? Will removing it cause more problems, or make it run better?
Just curious. Tags: None

The distributors run better without the plastic piece.
The plastic on the back is junk.
It causes problems if your dist. carriage tubes are not perfect....the stop blade will ride on the useless appendage on the back of the clutch plate.
If you have smaller pulleys on the BE drive motor you definately do not need it.
Put the clutch plate in a vise inside a shop rag and remove the rivets with a sharp chisel on the clutch disc side.....this takes 1 minute.

If this is not the case, you can always take a pair of channel locks and bend the trip stop bracket so that the trip stop doesn't drag on the plastic piece on the clutch.

Re: HERE'S ONE FOR THE KING...
Larry is right on with his description.
You either love them or you hate them. Even though I’ve slowed down my PW’s I still love them. If a pin pauses at the O-pan & the pins get too close together, the plastic cam on the clutch plate will give the dist a chance to index before it lets go of the pin.
This is the same reason that I don’t like a dist belt that is too “grippy”. The belt will push the pin over the trip arms before the dist can fully index, usually causing a “double feed”.
