The picture is a humpback return.I prefer the adjustible slow down ones from amf easier to fine tune to the return.. The big spring is to give more tension to the rudder drive , this has been addressed in previous posts. lifelong has a fix you can make yourself. Also the chain that lifelong provides for the pressure plate is just waiting to break. Do yourself a favour and replace it with some stronger chain and set it up like a pbl.

that spring slows down the pulley? What was that about reduction pulleys from old school mech's post? thanks for the part# also.

The problem is not in the paddle. It's in the paddle drive. If you put in reduction pully's with the stiffer spring shocks. The paddle moves much slower, but has 2 times the strength. The slower paddle allows the ball more time to enter the return while having more then enough strength to knock out a pin, even one with 2 balls behind it.
