• More respot issues

I got a call last night from a friend who owns a 6 laner. He is having a problem with one of his lanes not wanting to respot pins intermittently.

Every once in a while the cells will slip over the pins. He mentioned that it look like the cells are closing “late” on the pins. The only way he can fix this is to tie a bungee cord around the spotting arm link assy. 070006 585.

I was thinking along the lines of a bent pivot stud or a cell too tight and the like, this has been checked. He has been talking to AMF and now they are stumped. So I thought I would get the answer here.

This guy is a welder by trade and man he is a good mechanic on all kinds of machinery. He has worked at a bowl for nearly ten years now. He is very competent.

I do not understand why the cells will not close and what the bungee cord is doing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Pat

Sounds like you may have a broken respot arm spring(green ones in front of machine), or spring bracket is worn.

Replace both Springs, One or both might be weak.Check the plate & pivot bolt that they are hooked too. Alot of times the plate & head of bolt wear badly. I've seen when they wear clean thru. Check the main drive channel that runs along the 1,2,4,& 7. Make sure it's not Rubbing on anything. Look real close up front, have the support arm real close to the channel.

Also check your spot/respot cam and cam follower for wear. Good luck.

One of the biggest things that cause the fingers to hesitate is bent "boomerang" pivots on the front edge of the table... if a pin gets bent or a bushing splits, they cause all kinds of problems.

Another thing that is sometimes overlooked is the
stop bolt on the front of the machine. the stop bolt is meant to stop the respot lever and spot lever from traveling to far and crushing the pit light. Sometimes it can work loose and wind itself out to a point where the lever will strike it. When this happens the cam follower will leave the respot cam and you will lose the full stroke of the cam.
Its probably not that but worth a look
First you clean it
then you lube it
then you clean it
then you adjust it
then you clean it
then you clean it some more

You might want to check the area where the green springs attach to the bracket of the machine. One end of the spring attaches to the spring hanger and pin and the other end attaches to the bracket. I have had a few of those brackets rip apart and that will cause the problem you describe. AMF does make a repair kit for this.
