Try adding a Belleville washer on top of the bearing.

You could try taking off the side casing, do this on its side, and you won't need to drain the oil. Then check the shims/seals, possibly to thick. Try using a thinner seal, or none at all to put more tension on the bearing. Most combo motors when turned by hand should have some drag to it.

I think it was the contactor in the chassis box last time we had this problem.

Swap worm gear with another or shim it. Check lower table contacts. Pray to Crom, God of Conan the Barbarian/Destroyer.

Re: coasting gear box

there are no carbon brushes in westinghouse motors...The gearboxes are known for coasting...1st thing, check to see how many shims are under the outboard plate. if there are too many, there isnt enough resistance in the gears...if removing them dosent work, you will have to add shims behind the inboard bearing. Call Carl at AMF, he will have all the part #'s for the 5 different thickness of shims for this. They range from .03 cents to .22 cents. Good luck, and if you need any more help with this, feel free to email me, I have done this project about 500 times.

Re: coasting gear box

Now I am sober, let me clarify....The shims that go inboard go behind the bearing race for the inner bearing on the shaft that the brass gear is on...most of the time if you remove a few of the larger shims (look like aliminum gaskets) on the plate that holds that shaft in, you can create enough "drag" in the gears to eliminate the coast. If you were to take it to a professional moter/gearbox guy, he would take an electrical resistance reading on the motor and that would tell him how many shims need to be added/removed (I think it has something to do with amperage draw, but I am not completly sure) But for our purpose, just tighten that up a bit, and you will be fine

Thanks For The The Ideas Of Creating More Drag...{Klixon & Jim Dorsin}. That might be what the felix ordered. I have already destroyed shimms and not put them back in with no problems.

Somebody posted a while back to transpose the combo gearboxes. That way the wear is akin to rotating the tires on your car. Does anyone agree?
Yeah but, We've always done it that way.

make sure the centrifugal mechanism is operating the switch cards correctly, try raising it slightly, connect wires to the switches and to a meter, and operate the cent mech evenly with two thin rods (stator bolts will do) and make sure it switches correctly, make sure the connections ion the plug are ok (plug is fixed to the motor)

another thing: you can get away with a coasting motor on a table, just tweak the cams a touch, and put a table motor on the sweep! (bodge, but it gets you outta a hole!
