i have a prob for wb, or anyone else that may help. have a CTI blue "Ultra Chassis" (forrest gump talk) for no particular reason, it just goes dark. go to flip the on off switch of the chassis, it briefly comes to life. if i sit there and just hold the switch half way in. . . works great, tho my finger gets tired.
could it be just that switch?? its the only servicible thing in the chassis. is it gonna blow up if i just "tim taylor" it. . .bypass the switch and tie the wires together?? also, spare MP works fine on the lane
Howdy Coors, The CT chassis is a weird bird. But, it sounds like that swich/breaker might be going bad. There may be a deeper problem, like a bad connection to the board & it is tripping (or trying to) just to get the "juice" thru. It is best to get that thing fixed b-4 it cooks! I have one sitting in my shop hat got smoked real good a while back...(junk now basically). Also depending on the time it was built, it might be a sort of prototype board. I've seen 'em with tons of jumpers running all over the board! Let me know if u need any assistance. Basically, I'd stick with the MP chassis...fewer headaches... are you guys talking about CTI/Zot's ultra 98 line or something similar? If its at all related, let me just go on record as saying i have NEVER had an Ultra98 that ran more than a month or two without problems. Theyre collecting dust on a bench now as my MP's are the reigning champs.
The impossible often has a kind of integrity to it which the merely improbable lacks.
MP's rule! Seriously, Jim at Omega Tek wrote a great article a while back, explaining why the CTI's stuff was "over-engineered". You just can't rely on a fickle computer to operate in an environment like a bowling alley (machines, that is! ) CPU's are great & all, BUT, they don't like the "flakey" environment that a pinspotter provides..That is the reason I like MP's (9850's are the best). The 9860 board they made is a pain in the arse as far as I am concerned. Just like the "XOP" they made to replace the 5 boards in the S/S chassis. Stick with the 9810, 9840, or 9850 MP boards, as well as the Omega Tek MK-70 and you will save a LOT of hair.. Sometimes simple IS best..'specially with pinspotter chassis... (BUT, BOOT them old 5 boards! They suck...HA )
MP's rule! (that is for the "king"... )

usually i have fridays off, my pinchaser didnt show up today, so im playin with my 1 of 2 MP lanes the other 38 lanes worth of SS with omega-teks are chuggin along like a frieght train
We also were having problems early with our Ultra 98 Plus-Superstar Chassis. Over the last several years, we have had to go through and electrically 'fine-tune' each lane to make certain there were no excessive fluctuations in voltage, i.e. new C1/C2 plugs, motors with good brakes, good capacitors, etc...
Now they seem to work pretty darn well, with a minor glitch here and there. The one thing we know we can't do is turn the pinspotters on and cycle them simultaneously with the scoring system, otherwise 2 lanes will trip their CB. We believe the problem is in the machine wiring, but not worth looking for.
Ironically, I have scrapped all of my MPs (except for 8 that will be for sale sometime soon) in favor of these chassis due to their added features. Originally I regretted that decision, but now feel is was the right thing to do. Call me crazy if you want....

I really enjoy the Simpsons. My problem is that I am starting to look like Homer. Doh!!!
I'll see if I still have the article & will ask him if it's OK. I would assume it would be OK to post it. It was interesting!

My only complaint about them was the wiring to the fuses...note that the motors are using 18 guage wires for 110 V with 15 amp fuses....Dosent seem right to me
Good morning, I have built a tester for the MP Chassis for the 82-70 machines. Instead of using the cam switches I am using relays. My question is to anyone that may...
Is anyone running the solderless relays on the accelerators? How do you like them? What brand? How difficult to convert was it? Would love the feed back as I'm about to switch...
Working...
