Ok guys,I've been coming to the site for awhile now and this is the first question I have had that i couldn't find an answer to.
I was wondering what brands of carpets you were useing and how long they last,we're useing the black vantage mandrel carpets,I want to find a carpet that will last longer,we are getting 2 to 2 1/2 years out of these then they start splitting on the seams.
The Vantage 'Super Soft" is just that .soft ..& they don't last long. The "Premium" woven carpet is good, but, a little stiff to install (alone). The Vantage "Mandrel" carpets that I have used are very nice...I have some that are 7-8 years old..but they're a perty mint green. Did they change them ? I haven't seen a black one.
I never had a "10" ;..but ,one night after closing,..I did five " 2's" !
i use to swear by Vantage premiums, however the last few ive gotten just seem to stall, and not just when first installed. Ive Become partial to AMF's Platinum ($210) and EBN's carpets ($159).
Over the past 5 years I've been using the Longwood carpet from JCP. It's copper in color and soft like the early AMF ones and starts up right out of the box, no pushing or pulling to start it. Up until this past summer the price was reasonable, around $140 if you bought three or more. I've got about 24 of the in now, most are about 3 yrs old and seem to be doing just fine. There is one that's been in now for 5 years, and no sign of any problems outside of a few strings around the edge. With that said, I had to pull one this Sat. The edge curled up so that a ball could be pushed under the carpet. It's the end machine and what's funny is that the 5 yr old one is right next to it. Some other houses that use it also say that it might be caused by to much oil on the lanes and this causes a break down of the edge and cause the curling. For the most part I've been pretty much satisified with them though. Another thing I do, as I rebuild my pits (1/2 the house every year) is to switch the carpets from odd to even and even to odd to help the wear on the edges. One other thing, is that on my Lane #1 I have an old green Gates one. It was in there when I took over the house and is still going strong. Those were last made in the 60's. If the Longwood's start going I'm going to try the new AMF platinum, just for S & G
In my opinion the Vantage Premium carpets are the best made. Though the last one we got was just about impossible to break in. Had hung it up previous to installation, and once in machine, it took ages to go round by itself. Even after a month it would occasionally stall
Not sure if I want that hastle again though. Was maby just unlucky?
Bring me the freshest "Mean Green" known to man! Juice on!
I can't give any input on what is the best carpet out there because I've only been on AMF machines for four years and have only had the pleasure of using AMF tan pumpkin carpets.
I will give you a "WARNING" though. If the owner of your center is going to help you change the carpets out "WEAR A GAS MASK"...Don't let him eat Mexican food before you do it, it will kill you. You have been warned.
Has anybody been using the new platinum carpet from AMF. We just put 1 in at a sister center. Don't know how well it will perform, but so far...so good. Would love to get someone elses take on this carpet...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Not bad...not bad at all. Much better than the pumpkins. I've had alot of problms with the pumpkin ones holding light balls (10# and under) about 6" from the exit. I also like the fuzzy feel of the platinums, I guess it makes for good pin scrubbing.
"Where are we going, and why are we in a hand basket?"
Clutch Plate put a couple of platinums in his machines and really seems to like them...I haven't made it down to his center since he's insalled them, but he tells me it'll take some skin off the knuckle when it's running.
I'm going to try the platinums out when they let me spend some damn money.
Air Force,I was in the center after you called this morning, thanks for the warning, but too late,
I've already had that experience with no gas mask in sight.
<ul>[*]They don’t curl at the ball door.[*]They’ll last forever even if they get damaged. I have a couple that have holes in them that have been in use for at least 10 years.[*]They don’t stretch lengthways. They do however grow in width sometimes. Just take a utility knife to the ball door side & trim off what’s necessary & you’ve got a brand new edge on the side that takes the most abuse. It’s a nice (unexpected) benefit, if you ask me.[*]They stay cleaner much longer than any of the others I've tried. Now I understand how King can get away with not mopping carpets.
Can somebody give an explaniton how pins 2, 3, 6 are supposed to be connected. I had a shortcircuit there for the drive motor connection because of water leakage.
I have a distributor that is pulling the belt hard to the left in the nine pin position (and possibly 6 pin), but seems fine in the other spots. As you can see the residue and...
I have several Pin Elevators that I believe to be out of round on my XLi's and was curious if anyone has ever run across this before and is so, what you did about it.
I'm...
