• AMF split finger carpet belt

Just bought for the first time an AMF split finger carpet belt 000 026 756 green in color, very light weight, installed very easily right out of the box, started up immediately, cost around $125. My question is does anybody have experience with this part ? If so, does it last a decent amount of time and does it perform well ? Would you buy another of these ? Any other info on this part would be great as well.

Thanks

Alan,
We tried one of those carpets when it first came out. It lasted a little over a year and then it lived up to its name; the fingers split. Don't know if they have beefed the splice up since then but we didn't have much luck with it. Now your carpet might last you 10 years and it could be the best carpet you've ever had. I just wouldn't install them on all my machines to test them.

i 've had one in lane 1 for about three years now. It is filthy, but it is still in one place. Marginal wear and tear on it, just mostly dirty.

The grean A M F carpet is good, i have had one on now for about a year & still looks new! I normaly use the black Vantage premium carpet, i get at least 5 years out them. I dont think it matters what carpet you use as long as everything is in good working order, They will all last for 4+ years!

I had the same problem as Kingram. They didn't make it to the 2 year mark. So far I've had good luck with the AMF Pumpkin and the Vantage Premium.

we have been using chinese clone green carpets for a while because they were cheap, now we can order from who we like again, we are installing vantage black carpets and amf pumpkin carpets, the green ones seem to de-laminate and are very succeptable to damage from anything that might get trapped between plows and carpet

We've had pretty good luck with the Vantage greenies... other than the fact they have the color of lung butter, we've had no problems with them... they seem to hold up pretty good as long as they are running true. We did notice that they chew up pretty quick if they start riding on (or over) the front roller flange.

Hey, anything is better than the old days... take a carpet outta the box and pile anything heavy around the shop on to it to flatten it out for a week before it's installed. THEN run it for about 2-3 days continuously so it gets broken in enough not to slip on the rollers (The old rust-colored "bumpies" were notorious for slipping). The new, softer carpets are wonderful compared to the old ones.

The pumpkin orange is the most horrible carpet out. if you put these in make sure you put a date down of what day you put it in because it will devolope a raise before the ball door not allowing light balls in. Now heres a fact most of you probably don't Know. The guy that manufactures the pumpkin carpet also make the tuffy white and the green slpit finger carpets and grey carpets for amf. I had 72 lanes in Luisville KY for 2years and he replaced at leat thirty carpets that were the pumpkin orange for the purpose stated above. we got the split finger carpets and they were the best carpets I've had for sometime now. I'm putting them in my center now. The only reason the would split would be bad plows or tools falling in the pit.

Well,
We might be onto something here!
We have a man from Scotland and one from Alaska that like the green split finger carpet. Think maybe it has something to do with the climate (you know, way up north)? Only odd man out here is PinMonkey and I'm not surprised at anything that will run for the Monkey. LOL

LaFarge, can understand why you can't get a pumpkin tan to run. It's too cold up there.
We are in New Orleans and we have pumpkin tan carpets that have been running for 3 years and sometimes it's hard to get those things going even in 100 degree weather which averages out to 80 or 85 degrees behind the machines. When idle they seem to revert to the old fresh out of the box carpet that is so hard to get to run, as Gman stated.

Re: AMF split finger carpet belt

Pumpkin carpets are junk for us as well. After a year or so they hold up 10lb and under balls about 6-8 inches from the exit. The balls will just roll in place. After rebuilding pits, rebuilding pits, rebuilding pits, rebuilding pits we finally talked to some other people and it was confirmed that a small percentage of these pumpkins develop this irritating problem.
Last time we had the problem, we dropped in a Vantage Premium without rebuilding the pit and no more light ball problems. Vanatge premiums are by far the best (IMHO).

Most frustrating is the fact that I have 6 of these damn Pumpkin carpets that are only 1-3 years old and still look and feel new; but will not work no matter what pinsetter you put them in (odd or even) or even flip them around to run against the seam.
"Where are we going, and why are we in a hand basket?"
