I have finally completed my parts list and install/adjustment directions for my modified mini PBL (Sans the LBS!!!) For those interested in the detailed instructions and parts list, simply PM me, and I will send it to you. I can send it to an email addy in Word format, or I can simply copy paste it to a private message. Let me know how you want it, and leave an email addy if you want it sent somewhere else!!

Raymond, all a mini pbl is is the light ball sensor is taken out and replaced by a rudder drive shock. every thing else in there works the same you just don't have the convience of the lbs.
They say that the **** rolls down hill but the smell always starts at the top.

Jim:

Just a little thing that I use instead of the spring extension or a pull down kit is a spring set up from a "B" machine. It's from their turret asy. The part #'s are for the spring it's 12-4086 and the spring hook it's 12-4087. They both cost about $12.50. The two pices screw together and now you hav an adjustable spring asy. They will fit on both the lift and the mousetrap. Another thing that you might want to do, it save a lot of words when you try to hook up the spring extension setup, is to put a medium size eye bolt in the hole where the spring goes. The turret spring fits right into it and there are no more skined knuckles.

************************************************** ************************************************** *********
2 000-027-710 V-Belt (36 inch)
1 000-024-599 Adj. Rudder drive sheave
1 000-029-608 Shaft (bolt)
1 844-073-002 ½ - 13 Stover locknut
1 000-029-609 Spring
1 000-029-695 Crank Shaft
1 000-022-092 Crank Plate
4 000-029-611 Uniball Washer
1 V-000-029-671-A Adj. Rudder drive link

There are a few other parts listed in the directions, but they will be present in your current assembly, and will not need to be ordered.

PREP ASSEMBLY

Assemble the belt tension assembly (sometimes referred to as the ‘mouse trap assembly) as shown on page 64 in the AMF book, with this difference. Add the spring clip (070-011-109) to the shaft/bolt that connects to the adjustable drive sheave. (000-029-608) and use the spring extension (070-011-106) and spring (000-026-032). Make sure you use some type of bushings inside the ‘mousetrap’ spring (000-029-609) and the spring clip (070-011-109). I also suggest cutting off the end of the support shaft (000-029-605) that protrudes into the pit. This will allow removal of the tensioner without removing the ratchet assembly.

Conversion instructions

Remove the entire LBS and rudder assy. Then remove the LBS from the rudder, and re-install rudder. (make sure that the rudder is centered both top and bottom)

Remove crank pulley, shaft, and plate. You will need to use the smaller (kicker style) crank plate (000-022-092) and shaft (000-029-695) because the nuts from the bigger crank plate will hit the barrel of the new drive link. You will need to drill new holes (closer to the center) on the crank pulley for the new shaft/plate. I just use the plate as a template. For greater adjustment ability, offset one of the holes about ½ inch away from center. (the one on the slotted end of the crank plate)

The adjustable speed drive link (V-000-029-671-A) bolts directly to the rudder and to the crank plate stud. Use 4 Uniball washers (000-029-611), one on each side of the 2 Uniballs to remove some of the pressure from them.

The belts used are two 36 inch belts (000-029-611). By using the larger crank plate, you need a larger rear belt. (original is 32 ½ inch).

Adjust crank plate for maximum offset of stud from center of pulley. This is what created the delay on either side of the exit (somewhere around 2 seconds or so) Adjust the adjustable drive sheave to its largest gap (making sure the belt isn’t riding on the threads in the center of the pulley). This, in essence, makes the tensioner pulley smaller, and you have made the drive pulley bigger, thus creating the slowest speed possible. Adjust your drive link to maximum pressure. You equalize the delay on either side by making the overall length of the link longer or shorter, as needed. (loosen jam nut on rod end, and use 3/8 inch wrench to turn the shaft on the back of the link)

This Modification allows the paddle to push hard enough to drive out two 16lb balls, yet slow enough for the 6 lb’ers to return to exit before next paddle stroke.

These directions are to convert a full PBL to a modified Mini. (basically just replacing the LBS) TO convert Kickers, you must purchase a mini PBL kit, and just replace your small aluminum drive pulley with the larger PBL part (070-011-097)

I also recommend a few other things, to help in over all performance. Use Stahls lift pressure kit (same concept as AMF’s, either will work, I just had this # handy ) Pt # 610-070-013-T. Tuffy complete uprail cover (000-024-663-4TT). Shim the lower uprail bracket about ¼ inch toward the ball lift. And utilize the 5 inch ball lift clutch pulley to slow down the overall speed of the lift belt. (Left hand -V-000-024-811 and Right hand - V-000-024-812)

I wish I could add a picture of this, it really opens up the exit area, and makes things much simpler to work on. Hope this helps you out!!!!
If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it." -W.C.Fields
