• 82/70 short cycle problems

We have short cycle installed in all of our chassis, but for some reason when it is hooked up on 3 of our lanes it works backwards. If you pick off the 7,10 or throw a gutter. It wipes the pins off and sets a full rack. The problem is not in the chassis since you can move it to another set and it works fine.

Any suggestions on where to begin?

Does it work OK on the regular cycle? Sounds like a foul lite problem....

Did you just install this feature? Do you have SS or MP chassis? If you just hooked up this feature when this problem started I would check the wiring modification going from C1 to TSA2 and TSA3.

Re: 82/70 short cycle problems

We had this. After a gutter ball (for instance), the normal time delay begins at first guard. At the end, the chassis holds back the table run (feel for pins) and turns the sweep on, but in reverse. You must have either a sweep reverse relay added to your machine, and it is at fault. If you have OmegaTek with Expanders, then moving the entire chassis, boards and all, the problem would go with it.
In otherwords, when you moved the chassis, did you move it with the boards? If so, and you have Omega's, then never mind.
Another hint: after it swept the pins, after the run through, did the sweep go right to zero and then start the second ball cycle?

What kind of chassis boards do you have?
Give me a hammer and some duct tape and I can fix it!

Re: 82/70 short cycle problems

BowlEquip has a good question; When it sweeps the pins & spots a new rack, what ball cycle does it end up on?

Another thing... If you have solid state switches on your motors there's a modification that has to be done in the wireway to make the SWP reverse work. If you install Omega-Tek expanders, it has to be modified again. If this is the case, call Carl at AMF tech support. He has the info to make it work.

Re: 82/70 short cycle problems

These chassis have been installed for several years and they just gave up on figuring out whats wrong. You can move the chassis to another machine and the problem does not follow. I know they have omega tek boards in them, but am fairly new at working on the chassis. How do I tell which boards I have. There are 2 main boards in the chassis with some much smaller boards beside them. I will get some pictures and post them.

Sounds like dirt man has pulled some wire swapping here.

Do any chassis work on these lanes.

Have you added solid state ss on the sweeps?

Have you added relays on the sweeps?

Re: 82/70 short cycle problems

The Omega-Tek boards you have are the MK-70 & the Expander.

The MK-70 replaces the original 5 boards. It's the one in the #4 slot that has a smaller board connected to it that goes in the #5 slot. The small board has a wire that goes to the ground lug on the motherboard.

The Expander is an optional board (Not optional if your RSC wires have been removed) that gives you the short strike, gutter & 7-10 pick-off cycles. It's the one in the #1 slot with the relay (sweep reverse) in the top LH corner. It has 1 (If the board does not have pindication capabilities) or 2 (If it has pindication capabilities) set(s) of wires that plug into the back of the MK-70, a 5 wire plug next to the relay with 1 wire to the sweep contacts & 4 wires to the C-1 plug (For sweep reverse) & a gray data cable from the scoring system (For pin-fall info).

You also have a jumper board in the #3 slot that, because you're using Expanders, has a green wire that plugs into the 12v lug of the motherboard. BTW, I’ve never seen a 12v lug that was actually 12v. The ones I’ve seen are about 15v.

Re: 82/70 short cycle problems

Does a known good chassis from a working lane work on any of the lanes that you're having problems with?

If you could answer our questions & it'll help narrow things down a bit.

Re: 82/70 short cycle problems

We are about 60 miles north of Joplin on 71HWY.

If you take a chassis from a lane that has working short cycle and move it to these lanes it quits working properly. If you take the chassis that you just removed and put it on the working lanes it works ok there.
