  • Table Spotting

I have a lane that I will get a call for a full rack.I get to the machine in question, there are 20 pins in the bins and machine is in 2nd ball. I have 82-70s with MP Chassises and Steltronic Scoring. This problem is intermittment. I have changed out the 9P bin switch but the problem keeps occuring. I stand there and watch the machine to see if I can catch the problem but of course it doesn't happen while I am there. Any ideas or sugguestions? Is their 10 in the cups and 10 in the bins, or are all 20 in the bins ?

kinda vague there, buddy. If theyre all in the bins, then it doesnt sound like they're shuttling. Make sure your table relay is getting juice to the solenoid. Make sure your stop bolt for your shuttle isnt out so far its keeping the shuttle from rocking forward. Check carb link for spotting latch height, and maybe give a few more details on the specifics. One of these monkeys will be able to help you.

Is the sweep up or down?? What do you do to give them the full rack they need?? (IE, did it cycle at all, or is it still waiting to cycle) if it didnt cycle, is the scoring system responsible to initiate the cycle? Do you still have cusion switches? Do you have aftermarket electronic trigering?

            Re: Table Spotting

The sweep is up,masking unit shows 2nd ball. To give the full rack I cycle the machine from the rear control box, I can also cycle the machine from the MP Chassis. In either mode the machine will spot ten pins. What I am told from the front counter people is that a ball will be thrown(1st ball mode) sweep comes down ,picks up pins sweep through and respots the pins. 2nd ball is thrown, sweep comes down, runs through cleans the deck, returns to guard then to zero without any pins being spotted. I have no cushion switches, no after market electronic triggering. My current scoring system is responsible for initiateing the cycle(Steltronic Scoring).Does any of this info help any.

in referance to above, I forget to mention that you can also cycle the machine from the bowler console and the front desk computer and it sets a full rack of pins.

What are the scores on the monitor?
Maybe 9 + empty or foul?
                So it goes.

I would start with your cam switch gaps and cam settings, sounds like they are a bit out of whack.

                    Re: Table Spotting

Are you talking about a possible no strike cycle. If so unplug table cable and see if problem goes away if so look for respot cell wire off or bear wire in wireway.

I would assume that if they have MP chassis, they have already bypassed the table cable, however, good point.

                        Re: Table Spotting

TA2 could be adjusted to far in, causing the sweep to run through from 270 to gaurd and the table not to spot pins.
Could also be spring or switch related too.

                          Re: Table Spotting

So, on 2nd ball, sweep runs through and back to 2nd guard, not stopping at 2nd guard, and then on up to zero?? Sounds like a bad SA or SB microswitch to me--but could also be in chassis.

On 2nd ball, SB triggers Table spot at 186 degrees--roughly back row of pins. SA stops sweep at 270 degrees and also at zero. It also might possibly be TA1 or TA2 causing the 270 sweep bypass-depending on which one the MP chassis uses to trigger sweep run from 270 to zero. I've never worked on MP chassis, so I can't tell you for sure!

If machine runs 1st ball cycles fine, but is messing up on 2nd ball cycles, I would be checking the chassis out as something electrical is amiss--if it was mechanical--sweep would still be passing 270-(2nd guard) on 1st ball cycle.

Problem solved. It was the 8p falling over and off the pindeck. Camera would read 9pins count when strike was thrown, however machine would get a 9 pin count and table would feel for pins, thus putting 20 pins in the bins 2nd ball
