On tuesday during league I get a lane call on 21. What do I see, carpet not running. Then I see that carpet on 10 side was unraveling behing front roller bearing.
Guess what kind of carpet it was? Yep,Pumpkin.
The worst part of all is that there was no warning. Carpet was fairly new because it was still orange.(i dont clean carpets)
I have another Pumpkin carpet which has dried out and throwing orange dust all over machine. Has anyone seen this happen?
I am replacing Pumpkins with Premiums from AMF. So far so good.
I have seen Premiums fail in less than 4 years, where I have seen Ugly Whites look and run like brand new 2+ years after install, they boast 14+, I will let you know in another 12.
We have a lot of premiums that have holes, and even though they will run, we have to fish pin necks out of them regularly, as theholes apear, the whites go in.

I have been using them for about 2 and half years, and so far, they seem the same (knock on wood) But I hear you Felix, they did change the rough top dist belts becasue they stoped dealing with the suplier.
I've always thought that the tracking on the Pumpkins was lousy. My biggest beef with them is they get "stiff" near the ball exit area causing 10lb and below to roll about 8" from the exit and not go in.
"Where are we going, and why are we in a hand basket?"
Just experienced sudden stopping with the pumpkins myself on two different machines. Never seen that before. Nothing wrong with the front roller, clamps or bearings, free and plenty of tension and the carpets are fairly new.
I’ve tried a couple of new AMF premiums and they seem to be holding up ok, but then again so did the pumpkins at first. In fact I still have some old pumpkins when they first came out that are still in service with no light ball problems.
Still love my ugly whites from Stahls. I guess I’ll have to order 2 more ugly’s to replace these inferior pumpkins.
The only time I’ve ever seen a carpet spread red dust all over was the orangeish /red carpets from Stahls a while back (I don’t know who the manufacturer was). I got about three years out of them before it started doing this and the seams came apart.
Man, If any of you guys can get anything over 2 years out of a carpet nowadays, with the amount of oil units your putting on the lanes, day in and day out, it would be amazing--(You'd have to be washing them with soap and water to get the oil out of them!!). Before ABC loosened they're grip on oil patterns, we could get 10 years or more out of a carpet. But nowadays, they just instantly turn black from all the dirt and oil. No wonder carpets just seem to fall apart without warning!!

I have only changed 1 carpet in 2 years.......this is oiling the lanes twice a day and having cleaner dumped on them each time........Vantage Premium carpets are the industry standard.
I agree! Vantage Premiums are by far the best I've seen. I had 1 that had been cut in 2 by something getting caught between the rear roller & the plow a few years ago. It just got changed out a few months ago. Not because it stopped working but because I had to pull the pit for a broken bounce plate & I figured "As long as I have it apart I might as well change it". I have other V-Premiums that have easily been in use for more than 5 years, some may be close to 10. I don't know for sure because I was only a part timer back then & maintenance records prior to 1999 are rather spotty.
Ditto on the AMF Platinums!!!
Pumpkins were supposed to repel oil. Didn't.
As oil goes through the belt, the inside surface gets slick and you lose traction on the rear roller. I have quite a few doing the "slow dance" when the pit is filled with wood. Just sprinkle half a bag of rosin inside the belt. After a few rev's, much better.
PS: DO NOT USE BELT DRESSING. It leaves a permanent sticky residue on the bounceplate, which can really slam on the carpet brakes.
Can somebody give an explaniton how pins 2, 3, 6 are supposed to be connected. I had a shortcircuit there for the drive motor connection because of water leakage.
I have a distributor that is pulling the belt hard to the left in the nine pin position (and possibly 6 pin), but seems fine in the other spots. As you can see the residue and...
I have several Pin Elevators that I believe to be out of round on my XLi's and was curious if anyone has ever run across this before and is so, what you did about it.
I'm...
