• 82-70 bad switch?

when i turn machine on relay inside of chais ( i think its called a relay, the switch that engages whenever there is a sweep or table function called) it is getting power to it and making a bad humming noise and you can see it "locked on". i have disconnected motor to sweep(this is the one in question) and manually turned motor with crank until it releases. recconect motor, turn on power and motor kicks in and same problem. no response to cycle switch or sweep switch even in reverse. again i have tried swapping chasis problem persists.

thank-yyou agaian in advance for any help.

Have you check the reset on the sweep motor? If so try changing motors with a machine that is working fine.

What is humming - the motor or the contactor (the relay)?

Kind of sounds as if the centrifical mechanism is hanging up inside the motor?
Try switching chassis and see if the problem stays or chases the chassis? If it stays, I'll bet the centrifical is screwed up and needs attention(in motor), if it chases the chassis, I'ld replace that contactor block.

Re: 82-70 bad switch?

If the contactor is humming, it could be something as simple as a wire getting caught between the magnet pads at the bottom of the contactor. Anything that keeps the actuator from seating firmly against the magnet pads will cause it to buzz or hum.

I had a problem a while back with a couple sets of contacts that were manufactured wrong, and they wouldn't align for anything. They would run the machine with no problems, they were just noisy as heck. Every time the contactor would close, it would buzz like crazy.

if the swep, motor ishumming or just not running, ,and you have changed chassis. . . .

-check/replace centrifigal or SSSS in motor
-check/replace two capacitors in wireway
-check/replace sweep run & reverse switches
-check C1 plug for burned pins

if that doenst get it let us know

Re: 82-70 bad switch?

sorry should have been more specific, relay is switching on when i turn on power, no motor function is allowed. i tried disconnecting power cord to motor and manually turning motor to se if it was a switch i could identify. also cleane d up pins that plug into chasis, argh..... now i get no function out of table at all. is this a loose wire in connector? and does anyone know wich wire is which so i can hunt it down without hurting anything or myself?

thank-you everyone for your help, i wouldnt be this far without you.

Look at the C1 Block - from the "top" of the C1 block, the look at the next two "rows" for BURNT pins. If ur half blind like me get a magnifying glass (no kidding), look for burnt pins on the chassis side as well as the machine side of the C1. ALSO, if you are using the original allen-bradley contactors (they are black and have contacts exposed), if the contcats are bad, that might do just that. Gimme a call at (888) 902-2695 & I can describe all this in more detail... ALL other posts can apply!

this may be totally obvious, but im gonna ask anyway. When you swapped chassis, did you swap relays as well? Or did the spare chassis have its own relays already? Ive seen guys swap chassis, but put the same relays in it and have the same prob. Just a thought.
