  • What's the difference

What is the difference in the 90XL and the 82-90XL? Are they the same or is there a difference?

    Thanks
If it moves and it's not suppose to use duct tape. If it doesn't move and it's suppose to use wd-40.

      Re: What's the difference

Different chassis and an updated front end control box. The 90XL has the black chassis.
      Mechanically:

Concept 90: Similar to 70's except:
      -Smaller frame tubing
      -Eliminated shuttle operator casting
      -Simplified wiring, chassis, motors
      -Added front end control box
      -New managers Control Unit (MCU)
-Eliminated Start Switch. Comes with triggering
      -Round, hoop-shaped pinwheel support frame
-Single chassis per pair w/LCD display

      82-90:
-Eliminated table wiring (Comes with camera)
      -(Late) Plastic Sweep Links
      -One-Piece Plastic bounce plate

      82-90XL:
      -Steel Table; New respot system
-Repositioned spot/respot arm links for steel table
-2nd generation chassis (White or silver?)
-8800Gold - style pinwheel support frame (Round style discontinued)& guard
-Standard style bounce plates (Plastic UHMW)
-Comes with its own style foul units (Radaray XL); all low voltage from chassis
      -Standard Bounce Plates (Phenolic)

      90XL:
      -Steel sweep links
-3rd generation chassis (Black) for use with 90XL or 8800Gold
      -GRIPPER PBL standard
      -Redesigned Front end box
-New combo motor design: removable stator (like westinghouse/GE), then rotor easily removable from gearbox
      -Accucam 3000

      90XLi:
-Table & Sweep switches and cams eliminated
      -Regenerative braking eliminated. Mechanical/sattic braking
-Front end box eliminated; comes with hand held control unit that plugs into the front of the machine and taps into all chassis info & functions
      -Table reverse feature
-Radaray XLi foul units: nothing at the foul line except optics. All electronics in chassis.
-New triggering system: will cycle only with a ball. Safe. will not cycle if deadwood rolls out.
-New XLi chassis more serviceable (supposedly)
-Many diagnostic aids with the chassis and hand held unit.

        Re: What's the difference

82-90 had a single piece bounceplate. Was it any good? I would assume not as the others had the standard one.

          Re: What's the difference

82/90 was simply the first model of the 82/90 series. this was where one chassis was used to control two pinspotters, they keep upgrading different scoring etc. and foul units and hence XL was added to make the 82/90XL.

No table reverse, sweep reverse yes. I have older 82-90XLs (no steel table here, thank god)not sure about the newer 90s.

the steel table was introduced when they introduced 82/90 XL after the aluminium tables were no longer manufactured.

I tested a plastic table for AMF. Lasted about three months.

That one-piece bounceplate is hanging next to the plastic table, plastic shuttle pin holders, plastic spotting cups, and clear cushion rivets on my "WALL OF SHAME".

Tested a one piece bounce plate at a center I worked at in Glendale with the 90's, NO GOOD! I think it ran about 2 months before it failed, too much stress on it, I have never seen the plastic table, HA! no thanks, plastic cups I can understand but complete table, no thank you.

                          Re: What's the difference

One of the little known things about the change from the 8290XL sticker to the 90XL sticker was with the change to 90XL that is when we made a concerted effort to focus on frames per stop and make our AMF pinspotter the most realiable on the market bar none. Not that it was not before, but we wanted to raise the bar even higher. The ABC tournaments were our tests for how well the team working on this goal was doing. At the ABC tournament in Billings they acheived 5000+ for the tournamnet. they went to work to make more tweaks and changes to the machine and to our manufacturing processes and at the knoxville tournament acheived over 8,000. the XLi and the changes we made there are part of a continuing effort to build and provide the best performing pinspotter on the market. We don't have everyting we want to do done yet and the team is still in place and dedicated.

Thanks for being AMF fans. We get our best ideas for improvement by listening to those who are around them every day.
