• SS chassi

I have a SS chassi that when used, the masking unit lights are very dim. Our chassis have the c23 plugs. I know the problem is in the chassi because it follows from lane to lane. Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: SS chassi

    things to check:

make sure the transformer is supplying the correct voltage, also check that its the CORRECT transformer

it could also be a bad earth or a high resistance connection inside the chassis, its possible that someone has soldered diodes into the chassis itself to drop the voltage at the mask and increce the bulbs lifespan (i have come across many many situations where this has happened)

it could be something as dumb as the wires to the mask plug inside the chassis are too thin, if both lights are on together and really dim on first ball, you have no earth or the pin-connections are incorrect.

type at ya online later dude

Jez, you're probably on to it... the circuits have a common lead that jumps from lamp socket to lamp socket... If it has corrosion, it'll have higher resistance.

ALSO: Something just occurred to me... a while back (before we got rid of our mask lites), we ordered a bunch of those sockets. They came in with either clear paint or some sort of lacquer on the terminals... it's really not noticeable, but it plays hell with pindication connections.

I have seen S/S chassis vary in output voltage from 9V to 17V! Remember they are pretty old...like Jez said, check the output voltage to the lights first. What kind of masking units are they? That can contribute to the problem along with it supplying low voltage. Also are you using the 5 biards or Omega Teks?

Check the heatsink under the big T1 transformer. We have C-90 masks, 3 times I've had problems with VERY dim masking unit lights. All 3 times it's been something grounding in the heatsink. Check through there, just another opinion

If I remember right.... there's also a triac that's part of the pin lamp voltage supply. It's mounted in a spider looking heat sink next to the PC board box.
