  • Pins jamming between b/e motor & pin wheel

    Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you have a little contraption you've seen, or used, along the way that stops pins getting jammed between the backend motor and the pin wheel when you get a pin pile.

I've had two in the space of 10 days where a pin has been jammed there, causing the backend motor to overload and decide it was going to give off some smoke signals.

Re-winding the stators is costing us a fortune, so if anyone has any ideas that can stop this happening I'd be more than grateful!!

    Cheers.

Fix your pin jams and this won't happen.

Look in this forum for the Stahl's orientor pan kit.....it will help.

Kryley, you obviously have a problem with the klixons on your motors, please attend to them, they are much cheaper than a re-wind.

If you are getting pile ups on the back of the distributer, than check out some of the threads on this site, lots of invaulable info to help prevent your problems.

You can't trust clixons, get something like this(4Amp. at 230V) and instal it near the A&MC box, they will save your motors and you can turn them all off from the front(also BE)without pulling(read damaging)the motor plugs.

Get rid of your BE-motor plugs.

We have wired a variable cut-off, ampage load sensitive switch in parrallel with our back end motors so if this occurs, or a large ball jam the pit will cut out protecting the motor. These kick in before the klixton disabling the motor. Also dont run the motor plugs too, just hard wiried into the board.

Re: Pins jamming between b/e motor & pin wheel

We disconnected all our hard wired BEM's. On of the pinchasers had a winding blow, it tripped the breaker on the BE control box... But he didn't isolate the pinspotter.

He disconnected (well started to) the wires connected to the BEM. Thing is the BE relay in the chassis had gone at the same time.... therefore the rear CB and pit swich were no longer functioning as they should.

                  Luckily he survived somehow..

Re: Pins jamming between b/e motor & pin wheel

when you get pin piles on odd numbered machines a pin will occasionally hold the clixon in place so it cant trip, and a clixon must ohysically pop out to trip, we use some little bi-metal 5A trips that pop out too, but if you hold the button in, they STILL trip out!

if you go to <a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.rswww.com" target="_blank">http://www.rswww.com</a></a></a></a></a></a></a></a></a> the part number is 330-727, i install them in the back end control box these days, used to put them on the motors, but they sometimes get broken, so now i just put them out of the way, on the live pole

Re: Pins jamming between b/e motor &amp; pin wheel

I knew a mechanic that made a deflector that was hinged to the wire way and simply laid over top of the B.E. motors.

If he had any pins going over and toward motor, they would be deflected back down to the pit.

kryley, make sure your o-pan distance is the correct distance from the pin wheel or a pin will occasionally ride over the top whether there is a pin jam or not.

There are many mods you can do that have been covered extensively in this forum to give you additional insurance against pin jams. Good adjustments and maintaining distributors along with some mods here will pretty much eliminate calls caused by nuisance problems. Then when you do get a call distributor related, it's a pretty good indication that something needs attention. Just some $.02 worth.

Real World Adjustment=As close to pinwheel as you can get without rubbing (taking high spots of pinwheel into consideration, and checking turn pan gap when distributor is at the corners.)
