  • Dist clutch coming apart - WTF?

I have had the clutch plate bend 3 times in one week and come apart.

I know the machine has to be running backward at some point.

I replaced the stator this am.....we will see if that fixes it.

Could a ball lift clutch cause a problem?

Were you breaking the worm too? If so, this would be a good indication the motor might have been starting up backwards on occasion. If your centrifugal switch or SSSS is going out (depending where your armature stops and some of the components like the carpet) it is possible for the motor to hum and kick-start backwards.

I don’t think the ball lift clutch(s) would cause the motor to start backwards…At least I’ve never seen this happen, but that don’t mean it can’t.

Jerry, I have seen this phenomena in other centers. Some believe that karma is at play from previous Bowl-Tech confrontations, others believe that you should run your clutches tighter then 1/8 of a turn.
