  • just bad luck lately with A. O. Smith

i told you all about my b.e. motors, but now i have an ao smith combination motor that ran great for about three months, and now it is all goofed up. never saw this before.... on table gearbox, it shuttles to spot and will stop on the deck. switch to sweep and it will run to 180 and just stop.? switches and wiring are correct. we all have absolutely (at my center) no clue what is going on with this one.
Don't mind me, what you read is invisible.

sounds like a break in the windings. when they heat up they seperate and you lose continuity.

wow! i got a lotta ao smith backends, and haven't had TOO much trouble with em. sure they run hot, but maybe it's cuz i rip out the cent. mechanism and use quality's S.S. switches. they're awesome.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Westinghouses/A.O Smith backends notoriously run hot regardless. No matter how clean you keep 'em, OPE bearing in great shape, gearbox in great shape, proper oil level, etc.., they just run hot. I've got Wests across the house and they all get hot. Most have ESSS, some still have cent switches (not for long).
Best thing to do for these guys is to make sure they are kept free of dust and grime.
