From MP to Solid State

We currently have MP's with Mark 4, M5, and even newer boards with LEDs. We also have 10 Creative chassis(old ZOT).
New owner wants the same chassis on each lane with the same boards.
A company offered Solid State chassis with Omni boards for all machines.
What problems can we expect and what will have to be re-wired to make them work?
We have Steltronics scoring, home made auto-sweep reverse, MP plugs instead of elco's(I know you can convert from SS to MP but V.V.?).

Who makes the chassis your looking into. I know some solid state chassis will go right on with out any problems but some won't just depends on model number and manufacture. If there true solid state then before you put them on make sure that you check your motors and the cent mechs because most run using fuses and not circut breakers. If your motors hesitate it will pop a fuse instantly. solid state start switchs are the way to go if you have some tricky motors.

Do the SS chassis have the Elco plugs? This in itself would not be fun converting over as it would be time consuming.

Is there a reputable repair service that can fix these omni boards? Do they still make these boards so that you will have spares?

Haven’t worked on MP’s for soooo long, but I believe that the reverse circuit (for the scoring) is built in to the chassis…So to convert to SS, an auxiliary relay and sweep wiring would need to be put into the mechanics control box. Also the low voltage power source to energize the relay from logic would need wires ran from the BPP plug to the relay.

Once you have this reverse circuit installed you might need to do some wire changes to make your homemade auto OORs work. This I’m not for sure about. But I had to with my homemade OOR, since the relay turns everything backwards and the OOR circuit turns the backwards backwards…OK now I’m confused but it worked.

I’m sure there is more, but I’m glad I don’t have to do the conversions.

DO NOT DO IT WITH OMNI BOARDS.

Only consider this swap with Omega Tek boards.

He should buy ZOT or used MP chassis across the house.

heyy martin,

i'm working in zoetermeer (holland)you know me, we workt together!!!
i have 12 lanes with SS chassis and I have never problems with them.
I also have sweep reverse en never have problems

I know SS chassis are good chassis, just wanted to know the problems that might occur when you have MP's and switch to SS..

Triac: the SS chassis they offer have elco plugs so I think that's bad news...
Omni boards are(were) made in the Netherlands so the availability is no problem but I don't know if they're any good, King's reply frightens me( why is Omega Tek better, what's the difference?).
Also, I have my home made OOR kit placed in the BE-control box, no room left for an auxiliary relay...
I think it's all bad news.

Hey Lampie,
The true Omni board is a rip off of the original Omega Tek MK-70, it isn't compatible with the Omega Tek expander! Also the Elco connectors can be a nightmare! [img]/content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif[/img] I would tell ur boss to keep the MP chassis! Unless like King said, only do it if they have Omega Teks w/ expanders...otherwise you are going backwards as far as technology. The reason the Omni boards were made in Holland is that they were ripped off (design) from Omega Tek (NEVER mention that board to Jim Hudson! He gets REALLY P-O'd!) Also they have a ribbon cable & connectors from the PC-5 board to the main board that can get cooked if there is a problem. Basically, your insight is correct, it's all bad news....stick with the MP chassis, it really dosn't matter what board is in it (personally I prefer AMF's original boards over the CT "9860" board - the auto BE shut off is a pain IMHO).

We have in Utrecht also Solid State Chassis but we have new Megatechholland/Maximum Technology's Boards and they are great, these Boards have all the APS furthers, and match more (Sweep reverse After Offspot, Machine Goes Off only if the machine is in Zero position, No Table Wires and more). heyy martin,

the OOR switch still works I have the same in my machine as by your machine, only the problem is with omni-boards is you don's have a quick strike cycle and gutter ball so the sweep won't come down, and they burn out. My SS chassis are running on creative boards. I've got quick strike cycle and and sweep reverse by gutter ball. And never got problems. you can come look at it by my?

Do not purchase the onmi-boards! They have lots of smoke inside them!
