  • Bin straps

How many of you 70 and 90 mechs out there use bin straps on the 4 5 6 7 8 9 and 10? I have recently started a project of installing them across the last 2 rows. I have 20 lanes done and 44 more to go. I think that as the machines age and shuttles get weaker, the extra straps add strenth and prevent a lot of problems. I first remember reading Dutch(RIP) doing this when he was at the reno hilton.

    Re: Bin straps

I have all of my students install them in every location except the #1, it spreads the stresses over more straps and results in less breakage.
    Please.....follow the instructions!!

          Re: Bin straps

We put the straps on #4 - 10 back in the 80's. It stopped the spreading pin holder problem and the double shuttles. Over the last few years we did the # 2&3 also. The shuttle is solid and double shuttles are rare. It's a good thing.

Dustin; I noticed you left out the 9 pin strap. I do the same. I can't remember who told me but I think it has to do with the bin switch. Could you explain? BTW, I tried to call you on your cell, could you PM me--Bill
Yeah but, We've always done it that way.

                Re: Bin straps

Bill some people think that putting the 9 pin strap on hinders the operation of that particular pocket just becuase the switch pushes the pin up toward the butt guide a little. I guess that is why I don't put on there I never have.

I also use them on all but the #1 bin... makes a strong shuttle.
As for the #9 bin, it has never caused a problem as of yet.

                          Re: Bin straps

Why not place a strap on the 1 pin?
The manual clearly shows all 10 straps should be attached. Thus gaining the most rigidity.

the manual also sais you need that little spring on the bell crank that does absolutly nothing....lol works fine without it. I have learned that things actualy work differently in different centers. Some need all the straps, some dont.

We have straps on the 7 and 10 only....and some of the machine are even missing 1 or the other. No troubles with double-shuttling and all the bins seem tight. The HM wants to have all on 7 and 10 min at the least.
