Re: Distributor swings
Watch your cam fowler and make sure it's not catching on the cam...I did have a machine that was driving me nuts with the exact same problem and it turn out that the cam fowler was catching on the spoke like rib on the cam. I shimmed my cam fowler with a washer and it took care of the sway.Lifes to short to stress on little things.

Re: Distributor swings
check the distributor drive shaft assy and the universal joint, what kind of distributor drive shaft assy do you use.

Re: Distributor swings
Check for a slack lateral tension spring on right of the dizzy stand as well as the safety link spring. If these are stretched, the dizzy will "shwwing" past the two and bounce around a bit. Also check the shaft onto which both of these springs mount - if it's loose you'll get the same problem.

Re: Distributor swings
John is given some good places to look. Also check to make sure there is no slop in the rod ends which connect to the saftey link. Disconnect the safety link assy and move the rod ends back and forth and make sure there is no slop. As far as the housing weldment goes, it can be out to far from the gearbox, or there can be some pitting on the insides causing the bearings to find a low dwell."Where are we going, and why are we in a hand basket?"

Re: Distributor swings
I was checking out the same problem on a lane jamming periodically for us. The problem is at the 8 pin. When the distributor goes to 8 it has a sway, sometimes bad, sometimes not. I just changed the weldment tonight (the senior guy told me that was it) the sway is still there and it still jammed. I watched the cam as it worked its way around and at the spot where it goes from 7 to 8 there is a black rough area on the position side of the cam. I can barely feel it so I don't think it's the CAUSE of the wobble, but maybe something is going on the is making this mark on the cam? I would like to solve this, lane 9 is the only problem lane jamming. Eliminated bent shaft, weldment, alignment ....something has to be causing that darn wobble. I also added a kicker spring at various lengths along the tension spring.Failed safety course.Question #1:In case of fire what steps do you take? Apparently 'Friggin long ones!" is the wrong answer.

Re: Distributor swings
If it's busy swinging too much, you should teach it some good morals and read to it from the Good Book... should help to decrease the swinging. :pEducatio est omnium efficacissima forma rebellionis

Re: Distributor swings
It rarely strays from "the path" like I said, it's an intermittent problem. I would say more of a mood swing.Failed safety course.Question #1:In case of fire what steps do you take? Apparently 'Friggin long ones!" is the wrong answer.
