Anyone know what I can do to help reduce play in the shaft on a combi?
What I mean is when you pull on the shaft it is able to move up and down slightly. (its oh so filthy this tenpin bowling business you know)

I ordered what I thought was a shim which would help solve this problem, but this shim set arrived and it turned out to be two waffer thin small rings of tinfoil! I could have went to the dinner and made my own!!

Any advice on what the where the shim set can be applied and any info on reducing play on the shaft?

Bring me the freshest "Mean Green" known to man! Juice on!

If you are trying to tichten up the gearbox, then those shims go inside, behind the bearing race for the main shaft inboard bearing (the big chunk with the brass hear.... the inside bearing... drive out the race in the gear housing and place those shims behind it) this "squishes' the gears together and reduces coasting (the big ones with the 4 holes that go behind the outter plate for the same gear shaft assembly do just the opposite)

If you are just talking about play, not drift (something that tightening up the gears wont help) you can replace the worm and the brass gear. (unless the problem is in the splines, then a new drive shaft might do the trick)

lots of work for a bit of play. if it is not coasting, I would just put the gearbox on the sweep, and call it a day (less weight)
