  • GS-X w/ Consolidated box Scoring problem

We've been having problems with the pinsetter detecting pins that are not there. It seems to be completely random as far as which pin it detects. I've searched for shorted wires in the harness, changed pinholders, changed the I/O board, changed the CPU, I've just changed the grey ribbon cable that runs from the CPU to the I/O, I've tried an adjustable B-Switch and still no luck. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I'm going to change the 3QT tomorrow morning and see if that doesn't take care of it. If that's not it, I guess my next move is tearing out the wire harness...and I really don't want to do that.

    Thanks in advance

I'd first see about timing and the position of the chain when the table stops after CW-CCW runs. If all the pinholders were exactly adjusted the same for switching when the table reaches the standing pins, you could probably work on a,b,c switch timing. But since there is probably a split second difference in when the pin holder switches make, the a to b to c timing will become more critical for the CPU to determine which pins are standing.

Thanks for the reply Ted. I tried what you said, but unfortunately, I've yet to solve the problem. I just don't understand why it's detecting pins that aren't there. I can understand not detecting pins that are standing, but what is sending the signal to score pins that aren't standing? When it misscores a strike it almost always reads the 10 or the 7, and when it misscores a spare it's completely random as to which pin it detects. I'm thinking I just need to look harder for shorted wires in the harness or maybe the main plug on the table is shot.

Aha, then I would look at those specific pin holders for stiff switch actuator parts. It seems to me once the pins are spotted, the detector plate, once compressed in the spot position, aren't switching when the swing arms take them back to horizontal. There should be loading issues with these pin holders as well. Do the 7 and 10 preload as they should?

Yeah, as far as I know we don't have any other problems, just scoring. I found in the last hour of my shift that the 7 pin is the biggest offender, and I've already replaced the pinholder. So in a last minute effort I soldered a new molex plug to the table to no avail. It's totally intermittent as well. I bowled an entire game before I left with no problem, put some junior bowlers on it to test it out for me and it screwed up before I could set foot out the door. This is driving me crazy, and it's probably something so simple that I'm not thinking of.

Check and see if the 7 pin detector paddle is hanging up on the swing arm and causing it to score the seven pin as standing, If so it will give intermittent problem you are having.

            MP Chassis Tester

            Good morning,
I have built a tester for the MP Chassis for the 82-70 machines. Instead of using the cam switches
I am using relays. My question is to anyone that may...

            *sigh* Hello friends..

I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....
