  • Ball Detect Protector

I saw a thread a while back about a protector for the ball detects. Couldn't find it in the search. In short we have Brunswick capping and Qubica gutters. The funding got half-a$$ed when they got the capping. Needless to say the minor problem we had with balls bouncing out of the gutters before is now magnified tenfold. Was thinking this could help until I complain enough about the problem to get new gutters.

it should not matter who's capping or gutter it is......the problem is most likely the depth of the gutter or length of the capping... Does your capping butt up against the kickbacks completely? from the top of the pindeck how far down to top of the rear adaptor block?

The problem is more the shape of the gutters relative to the capping. The Qubica gutters are more narrow than a Brunswick gutter. The result is that the Qubica gutters lay flatter in the channel than they did before the capping is replaced. Old capping set up was a little wider and the gutters fit in nice and snug. The side of the gutter towards the capping sat a little higher and balls stayed in the gutter, or in the rare instance they did bounce out, went towards the lane. With that side of the gutter being flatter, bowling balls regularly make it onto the capping into the detects and reflectors.

Thanks Amano, but the link didn't work. Says the website couldn't be found. Any other sources or a more up to date link out there?

Thanks again Amano. Sent the link to the boss. Not sure if he will go for them at $40 a pop. Any reviews out there on these saying how well they work?

If your ball detects are mounted on the front face of the kickbacks, just cut two 2x4's down to the width of the kickbacks, stack them, and install them directly above the ball detects. The wood will jut out more than the ball detect so when a ball jumps it will hit the wood instead of the ball detect.
