  • No pins after first ball

    Hi there,

I have a weird problem with one of our Brunswick Nexgen machines, this is only happening every 6 to 10 games or so, so I have not seen it happen, but this is what im told, bowler bowls first ball sweep and table come down, score from remaining pins is on screen, but no pins are left on the deck and the sweep is up.
So Im thinking that the spotting tong solenoid is not being activated when detection is made, sweeps the pins away and table and sweep go back up.

Has anyone had anything like that before, or is there something else that could be happening here.

Appreciate all your comments and help

Have you noticed if this is with a certain pin/combination of pins? If your spotting tong clutch didn't activate I would think you would get a 66 code (ST switch found but not expected). Could be a slipping spotting tong clutch, worn spotting tongs and/or grippers, etc.

Could be a stroke limiter hydraulic or height adjustment issue. Table might be coming down too hard or too low and knocking the pins over before the spotting tong solenoid engages.

I would check that 1 of the tongs is not out of time with the others, if 1 closes sooner than the others the only time you would have spotting problems is if that pin is not knocked down. Could be a broken pin detector plate, where when the pin is left where the plate is broken every thing runs normal but if the pin is knocked over the detector plate hangs down and blocks tongs from closing. Check the tongs and make sure they are all tight and the little pins on the deck plate are in the holes so it cant twist and catch in the gear rack.

I'd find out what the pin combination is when this happens before going further. With it happening occassionally, put the machine in diagnostics and run it for a while to see if there are any hangups or issues as it cycles then take the trouble shooting from there.
