I would sit on the machine and watch how it happens....that is whether the attenuator solenoid is activated or just lets go; whether the detect is triggering or not....
if you have isolated the machine like you said, then I'd also start looking at chafed wires or brake on the motor not holding.
Sit on the machine and see how it goes.

On a GS machine, if the cycle is not started but somehow the sweep release fails and lets the sweep drop, when the G switch is closed will it continue through the cycle or will the machine blackout with an error code or, will the sweep just sit there until the reset button is pushed?

If the sweep drops during travel back to home, it will just stay down. Pause+Resume or reset button will get it out of the way.Fix it the right way? You can't do that unless it worked right to begin with.

never blacks out . the sweep is always up and ready for the next ball to be rolled . has plenty of time before it drops . last night it never droped during a 4 man lg. on two teams . a good thing .but i do have off the ground wire at the nex gen cut off and the reset up front discounted so i will wait another week to see if that works then rehook one at a time to see witch one it is hopefully . never thought of the brake but will check it if it drops again. thanks all

Things that drop the sweep:
1) Reset button @ Ball return (shorting or stuck in)
2) Cable to nexgen from reset button damaged
3) Ball detect faulty
4) Incorrect SM adjustment
5) Sweep solenoid cable damaged (Usually machine side of the mollex, just inside the grey wire shielding)
6) Faulty Sweep Release Attenuator

*sigh* Hello friends..
I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....

At what thickness do you replace the clutch face.
Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
Thanks...
