  • Pins getting launched in to ball return track. And sticking in the door.

Is there any adjusments i can make to the ball door to prevent pin strikes from opening. or is it just a poor design?

There must be something going on with the locking mechanism. By the time flying pins can hit the balldoor the cycle has started and the door should be locked for x amount of seconds. Others can elaborate but I would think the problem is with the lock.

Could be several things really, your pin deflector plates not set up right, t-band tension all wrong, ball cushion tilt, your ball doors may be too low or high etc.

Not to mention "bowlers" rocketing balls down lanes with the machine off.

Check that locking bolt is working.
Check that all your cushion flaps are on and in good condition - these stop pins from rolling forward and being carried into ball door
Check that ball door is adj. to correct height.
          Then adj locking bolt
          Adjust cushion Tilt
          Recheck all adjustments

If the T-band is loose pins may idle and not move to the elevator Adj if needed
Scripps pin deflector plate adapters will move the pins back and into the elevator faster and clear the ball door for the balls to exit faster if you feel the pins don't want to move into the elevator very well. And like Glitch said any lane bowled on while off you have a 50/50 chance of having a ball return when lane is turned on.

Really simple one to check as well, make sure the spring is closing the door properly.

you can try adjusting the locking bolt down a little more but this may not fix it completely. It is so hard because you have them adjusted for light balls and the heavy ones blow right threw it. On the other hand you adjust them for the heavier ones and the light ones can't push threw it. There isn't a happy medium that I have found in almost four years of working on the GSX machines.

This is an area where you can change the geometry of the extension spring to allow various-weight balls to go through. No, I do not mean stretch the spring. That's one of the top entries on my pet peeve list.

You can add the nail or cotter pin to the older slotted locking bolt levers and get a better adj. by removing excess play and I have also found that on the Ball door shaft there is not an upper locking collar which can let the door raise so you can add washers to the shaft above the door and stop the door from sliding up the shaft and hanging on the locking bolt/

Change the angle of the spring or, more importantly, the tension of the spring. Are you asking me to walk you through it, Table J? I'm sure we've discussed it here before so I don't wanna bore anybody.

Also...I should have said "tension" spring, not "extension."
