  • Off Spot Pins

I bowled on 5&6 the other night in our center and the 4 pin on lane 5 was obviously off spot (a little to the left). Well I told the bowlers I noticed it, there wasn't much I could do while I was bowling, and that at least it would be the same for both teams lol.

Do any of you have this problem? Our GSX machines are 4 years old and I don't know how many times pins will start being set off spot seemingly out of nowhere.

One of the bowlers on the other team and i were talking about it and I mentioned if any pin was going to be off spot the 4 pin was probably one of the better ones. Obviously if it were the head pin , 5, 8 or 9 it would effect carry. But as far as I saw the off spot 4 pin didn't effect carry and there was a 770+ by a lefty and a couple of 680+ by the righties.

Well if it's just started happening the Pin Holder could be loose, if so, move it back on spot and secure. Or the Pin Grippers could be out of time causing it to set unevenly, if so, remove and re-seat properly.
If a pin is being spotted off spot then there is always a reason and a cure.

Thanks, it's just a pain in the but keeping up with keeping the racks nice and tight. It's. one of my own pet peeves, going into a center and seeing off spot pins I think reflects poor maintenance and a poor attitude.

Our other center has the old green model A's that have been converted to Jetbacks, and we don't have nearly as many problems with pins being off spot on first ball!

The A machines don't have any adjustments for spotting pins like the GS machines, you would need a bad deck roller or bent/loose pin finger for pins to be off unless the entire rack was off. I do feel your pain though it seems like someone always leaves bolts out or loose around here every so often and like you said all of a sudden one of the pins is off spot in the rack.

I go through & fine tune our spotting once every 3 months - but it needs to be done more often, as annoying as it is. Once our maintenance schedule ends this cycle, I'll be putting spotting in as a weekly task. It's easier to adjust 2 or 3 pins a week then 50 every 3 months.

Maybe a little Blue Loc-Tite would keep them from coming loose :-)
