I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad.
I'd marked a line on the crank lining up the crank rod (you can see the line in the picture, which I thought was lined up when I put it back in, that very obviously isn't anymore) to make sure I was going to be in time when I put it all back in. I even C-clamped a brace to the scissor cam to negate any shift in the deck or gearbox.. everything was looking good when I was getting it back together, crank rod was lined up where it came out. I got to putting the clutch back together, and I think that might be where I went wrong...? I noticed the arm had lowered just a bit when I was threading the input shaft in. I didn't think much of it, because I figured the clutch was engaged and it was shifting everything else. Well after I got the start/stop linkage back on, going for the gearbox clutch adjustments... I can't adjust it enough to raise that arm back to normal. Unless I'm doing it wrong, which is possible because those adjustments confuse the hell out of me sometimes. I slowly walked the machine back to 0 degrees, but the 4:1 is not at "0" (same horizontal plane), it's still slightly lowered. I've tried the adjusting screw at the bottom of the gearbox, and even pulling the clutch and putting it back... No luck.
I set the deck back to 270 (I heard it was easier at 270?) the gearbox dial with the degrees on it (I'm not sure the technical name) is just a hair shy of 270. Maybe 265 or 260?
If I have to take everything apart again (which I'm fully prepared to do, and not mad about it), what are some steps I can take to ensure I'm back to normal time?
