  • Which cable will replace this?

So the cable that runs from the deck jam tube, on my model A, is all kinds of gnarled up. My question is, I believe one of the moving deck cables would work for it, but which one? The upper cable or lower? Or is it it's own cable all together? I can't find it.

Do you have the tool to replace the cable?

the different cable lengths are all in the catalogue or u could measure the old one to the new one. u must have spares for each cable

If the "old" cable is stretched, then measuring it will be a small waste of your time. Write down the measurements of each cable as it is stated in the Quality book alon with the part number, and when you order them, just hang them up in their respective area. I would recommend measuring the "NEW" cables to make sure they arte the length they are supposed to be. Because this is where you can get into trouble.

The only cables that can be "mixed" up are the upper deck and upper sissors. With the sissors being shorter than the deck.

I respectfully disagree...do NOT use a vise to remove the cable. If you do not have the proper tool...get one. Your safety is more important than the few bucks this thing costs.

while it IS possible to dis-assemble a tube assm. w/o the tool,it is NOT possible to re-assemble it that way,and as professor Stafford stated,do not try any of this without that tool.

Although I agree safety first and I too recommend the tool but I have to disagree with jmac33 here. I have, in my earlier years, changed many without the tool because at the time I did not have one. I used the vise with a deep socket that I notched out. But once again, I do NOT condone this method. Get the tool and be safe.
