I've never had to do one, but the old mechanic is still around, and out of curiousity I asked him one day. he said he loosened one side of the rear elevator, swung out the one side, and pulled the ball wheel out that way. and while he had it out, went ahead and changed the ball wheel belt because it was right there in front of him and easy. Obviously depends on how big your back service isle is though...

But you still need to remove it to weld it.

As Kanga eluded to...do NOT weld this in the machine. The chance of a fire is far too great just to save a couple of hours of work.

WITH ALL THE POSTINGS ABOUT [ BALL-WHEELS ] IT MAY BE TIME TO CHECK ALL MACHINES FOR PROPER OPERATIONS

WHEN EMPLOYED I WOULD CHECK MINE AT LEAST ONES A WEEK

I have welded one in between squads, cracked in 2 places, used duck tape to hold it together until squad finished, already damaged 2 balls, when the squad finished, covered all burnable areas with welding blankets and welded the cracks in between squads,10 minute fix, I know it's not proper to do it that way but.....
