Locked up gear box
Hey guys. Yesterday, I believe my gear box locked up, and I'm really not sure what to do. It is at 180 standing pin. So the pins are in the scissors. I can't manually dis or re engage the clutch. By pushing down the actuator and everything, nothing will click into place. I can spin the worm shaft rod, but the pulley that the belt is on won't budge. Anyone have any advice for me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Tags: None

Well if the pulley with the belt won't turn, then it sounds like the pulley bearing is frozen. If you can rotate the worm shaft, you should be able to get the gearbox to move. Seeing that it is on STANDING pins, you could pull the clutch apart. If it was making noise before this happened, I would guess a bearing. Good luck.My father told me to never get old...I should have listened!

Curious... Why are you posting this again when on the 12th, you had already posted about this same issue (entitled "worm shaft nuts") and had some good replys?

I believe this reply was somewhere in your other post, but I will post it here because I experienced it. I had the same issue on a machine. It would cycle freeze and squeel. I could back it up manually like clearing a jam, and it would run to that point and then freeze again. I bring this up because I believe (it was quite a while ago) it was around 180 standing pins cycle. Just needed to top off gear box oil and it was all set.

You can take the clutch apart at any point in the cycle unless you have 27:1 worm shafts and worm wheels. You can NOT remove the worm shaft at certain locations in the cycle...but taking the clutch apart is not removing the worm shaft. Take the clutch apart and see if you can get the deck back down. Either direction will do...once you reach 90 or 270, you can remove the worm shaft if need be.TSM & TSM Training Development

*sigh* Hello friends..
I had a 4:1 go bad and I've never seen or done one before. Trying to search the depths of the forums, YouTube videos, it didn't seem too bad....

Adapting the Bluffton end cap & terminal board kit to Franklin BE (and FE) motors.
Left a rant about this in the bowling forum…

Turret clutch rebuild
At what thickness do you replace the clutch face.
Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
Thanks...
