  • Lock out on ETU board

We are having a problem with a machine where we are having lock outs on the ETU board about 20 seconds after we turn on the machine. We've changed ETU boards from 2 machines that work properly and it still does it. We've ckd jam switches and everything else that goes to the ETU board. We've even completely unplugged the scoring system (Frameworx) to determine that it's not the scoring which is is not. We've also ruled out the ball booster and anything up front like scoring or powerlift.
    The problem still persists.

    Any ideas would help.

Do you have power to the pinsetter? If not, have you checked your fuses/circuit breakers? How about the power transformer in the electrical box? Are you getting high voltage? Low voltage?

You have determined that the machine doesn't run with the scoring system disconnected. Does the machine operate on its own. Are all of the safety switches set to the on position? Remember, there are 5 switches that must be in the on position for the machine to operate: desk switch, mechanic's switch, masking unit switch, and both deck and turret jam switches. If any are off, the pinsetter won't operate.

The lock out occurs when the board sees that the rake has not fallen all the way down. The board may be thinking that the rake has fallen but it does not see that the lower limit switch has made. So it shuts itself off. Could be that it just isn't seeing that the rake is all the way up...which is done through the trigger switch in the electrical box. Check there and see if it is working properly. You could also have a broken wire somewhere between that switch and the ETU.

Steve, I'm not sure about this but I think "B" did a change in the software on the ETU's so that if the ball detect is blocked when the lane comes on and it can't find a clear path at the ball detect, it will power down the pinsetter. I heard that they wanted to change to this safety function so that if the desk gave out a lane when a person or lane machine was in the pin deck it would shut the machine down.

I'm not sure if they did this, but "B" is very pro-safety on triggering boards. Some manufacturers have been sued out of business because of safety issues with their triggering systems. That's why it took "B" so many years to develop their ETU's.

Does anyone have the latest version of the "B" ETU's? If so, try it out and see what happens!

We found that there was a short that goes to the rake drop micro switch that's in the electrical box.
Now we're having a problem with the other pinsetter (in the pair). It's double cycling the solenoid once to start the cycling then right as the rake is going up to zero degrees.
