  • Dead Motor Contactor???

I just stopped a pinsetter mechanically at 270* 2nd ball (to clear pins off the deck - fail), but when i turned the setter back on, all i got was the 1st/2nd ball lights. Motor was a little warm (no where near hot), so i hit the reset on the electrical box - nothing. We have league starting in 1 hr. and 25 min. The contactor is an old Allen-Bradley. Before i change it, i want to make sure this is the cause.

    TS1-H to TS1-E: 196.8
    TS1-H to TS1-G: 98.3
    TS1-G to TS1-F: .06
    TS1-F to TS1-E: 98.6
    TS2-6 to TS2-9: 25.3
    TS2-5 to TS2-9: 25.3
    TS2-3 to TS2-9: 25.3
    TS2-2 to TS2-9: 25.3

    Any other suggestions?
    Mike

Nevermind. Once I pulled the Contactor, I found the wire coming from the back of the coil had broke off, and grounded on the Electrical Box. Interesting readings though lol.

Are you getting the motor start relay engaging to turn on the 1/2 ball lamps, or is the relay not opening all the way. If no pit light either, try the 1 amp fuse.
If it's ok, temporarily jump past the overload to see if it will start. You may also mave an overload (Klixon button) on the motor itself.

Last night went smooth, however today it's doing the same thing as yesterday.

          TS1-H to TS1-E: 193.9
          TS1-H to TS1-G: 96.9
          TS1-G to TS1-F: o volts
          TS1-F to TS1-E: 96.9
          Low side looks good.

          Motor Start Relay closing properly

          Voltage into Contactor: 193.9
Contactor Coil voltage when on: 194.4

If you have voltage to the coil but the coil does not pull in...time for a new contactor.

At what thickness do you replace the clutch face.
Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
