  • Keeping A-2 on first ball

Is there a trick that will keep the pinsetter on the first ball cycle until all pins are knocked down? Our high school's bowling coach wants his kids to have to keep shooting at spares they miss until they pick them up. I told him I would need to research, but was thinking of somehow keeping the deck holding hook from dropping onto the post. Any ideas, or does this have the potential for throwing the machine out of whack later?

    Thanks

Try removing the top spring from the standing pins controller/selector on the detector. This should stop the standing pins cam follower from being unblocked at 270 degrees which will keep the machine on first ball.

I've only ever done this on one machine many years ago (playing a trick on a regular bowler)
But, I don't see why it shouldn't work on all machines even allowing for different amounts of wear and tear, etc.

Set the coach on the machine and have him lift the deck hook up after every ball thrown.

That should stop the requests for extra stuff! Nice

Better yet, have the coach sit on the machine and do the 'respot pin combination' dance for his teams' spare shooting.

I always tie up the deck holding hook with a bungee cord.

Taking the spring off worked like a charm, but I like the idea of the coach sitting on the machines! Thanks, all

I use a shoelace to hold the deck holding hook up just enough so it can't engage the pin. I only do this for employees who get free bowling or customers who are bowling by the hour because having the second ball light lit ball after ball messes with Qubica's ability to keep track of how much a game rate customer bowls.

I am sure King took all the information and stored it in an appropriate location.

Taking the spring off the standing pins controller does not guarantee the machine to stay on first ball. I pulled the springs off the first 8 machines for our High School bowling team to practice spares. Lane 7 would still occasionally go into 2nd ball without spring pressure. As far as I know the other 7 machines didn't have this issue. But they may have just not told me. I ended up tying the holding hook up on lane 7 and it was fine.
