  • Moving Deck Cables

Whats causing the bottom deck cable (tube) to have a quarter inch slak in cable. All new cables, adjust where geneva rollers straight across on plates. Sets pins fine. Take cable off and moving deck goes all the way back to stop pin. Check all bolts , deck pads, sissors with no binding. Had problems earlier with short stroke of deck at setting new pins. Adjusted and bent lever for hook selector was only cacthing a forth of blockout lever. Probably slipping off. One other time cable would pop off when picking up pins. It doesn;t do that all the time. Might run a week then cable pops off. But main concern is slak in cable. Also no bind in strike mech (d shaft).

Ok. Moving deck is going all the way back to the stops when it sets new pins. So the top moving deck cable is too long maybe. I didn;t change that one because it looked to new.

Adjust deck cable so that the mowing deck stops at about 3/8" in front of roll pin. This is done at about 300 degrees. 300 degrees is when the deck stops opening.

Ya but if I tighten the cable anymore the geneva rollers will over travel in slots and pop out. Its at its lowest point now .

Since you said all new cables, there is a small chance the other upper cable maybe the wrong length. It is easy to do, cause I have!

When replacing a cable it best two replace all three
this will give you the best adjustments [ and you have two less reason's to mess with them ]
for a year or two as all are new

In the newest Brunswick parts catalog, it says the upper moving deck cable is 45-11/16" long That was Part #12-200066-003.
The upper scissor cable is 43-11/16" long, part #12-200066-002. That might help.

When the cable becomes slack...is the adjusting barrel against the lower moving deck cable guide tube assembly and/or the moving deck against the rear roll pin?

The overall length of the two cables is what is used to control the position of the moving deck...and if the two cables are controlling the moving deck properly, the individual lengths will not be an issue...unless the adjusting barrel is hitting the cable guide tube assembly when the deck is all the way to the rear. If you change the cable because it is too long...you will only lengthen the barrel to compensate for the change and you would be right back in the same position. Answering the above questions will lead us to the next step...
