I spend some time cleaning up the rods them selfs before attempting it. Cleaner and scrubbie, then go over with a wire wheel, or emery cloth.

That appears to be an air hose attachment. I can see where it would work better than the usual method. My only question is: can you still use the sports ball needle on the tip of the air gun? Or, is the needle even necessary?

How Funny bought the same attachment last night on the way home from work, on sale at Harbor Freight only $3.49, and used it today. Works nicely, was just trying to see if someone had other ideas that worked.

You can do it either way...I went to these from the needles as I was breaking the needles...although they work very well. The blower from Harbor Freight works almost as well and I have yet to break that one.

We use that same attachment to blow out the oiling machines and pinsetters. I'll remember that tip when I do my first foam cover install.

i bought the air hose attachment from brunswick last year. works great on installing rod covers. also using liquid dish soap to help slide it over. must say it only takes me 20 minutes to change the lift rod covers

If you take the time to clean the rods up, with the air hose attachment it only takes me about that long. And I don't use anything to lube the rods.
You don't have to be crazy to do this job...But it helps!

Guys...this method will not work with the urethane covers.

i actually realized that after i posted. but you still need to clean the rods till they are smooth.

the thing about cleaning the lift rods... if you would also use a coat of paint, that would help protect the metal... you should never use liquid soap on the lift rods for two reasons.. the soap will ooze as the balls travel up the lift rods... and it will also rust the lift rod metal... therefore, the next time you change the lift rod, you may just have to clean more rust.

If we are talking about the gray urethane covers from Brunswick, this method worked just fine for the 40+ lanes of them that I have done.
You do have to be careful to not stretch them as you are putting them on, as over time they will shrink back and create gaps, or the need to use caps.

Cuda...which air hose attachment are you speaking of? If it is the Brunswick/Quality attachment, how do you get the short pieces all the way around the top?

Is there a minimum dimension from the clutch face to the rivet.
